Time to buy my first Chevy truck at 55?
Hello to all... Tired of looking at all the various pubs such as Consumer reports, MSN Auto, Edmunds and such. All have mixed views about Chevy trucks, but most owners seem satisfied. I love Chevy styling and have never owned a Chevy. Looking for thoughts on comfort and reliability. Having back problems, so need ease of getting in and out. Considering a ext. cab - short bed 4x4 w/ cap, or a Suburban!
Did have a couple of GM cars, a 73Olds 98, and a 88 Buick Century. Both served me well. Presently own a 92 Dodge Dakota w/ 150000 mi. It's tired Any thoughts? |

Not trying to be smart with you. But your on a Chevy truck forum. I don't think you'll find many on here trying to push you to buy a Ford or Mopar. Chevy trucks have always withstood the test of time. They are comfortable to drive, entry and exits are easy, plenty of power, great mechanical history. It's a great choice. Good luck with your selection.

Welcome to the board from NC. I think all new cars and trucks leave a lot to be desired, that is why i drive these older trucks.

Thanks to all the welcomes! I definitely see many older Chevy and GMC trucks still out there. I am leaning towards a 2004 Silverado. The looks of the new ones still have to grow on me. I'm sure it will.

Not to mention, up here in NY, the winters do a number on bodies that were not rustproofed

Re: Time to buy my first Chevy truck at 55?
from what iv heard from several ford owners is that the newer chevys have alot more leg room than a ford... if you want easy access you might want to consider a 2wd they sit a bit lower unles there is a reason you want a 4wd i like the idea of a ext cab short bed w/ cap... the suburbans though also have alot to offer i know my uncles 2005 suburban has a rear dvd and leather... if your looking for lux than go for the sub if its work horse then the pickup though both offer in both fields obviusly

Re: Time to buy my first Chevy truck at 55?
Thanks ed70 for the info. I do need the leg room and I would like to have a 4X4. I realize they are a bit higher. With my back, I have to get my rear in first due to bad lower discs. Maybe a step will help. How's the reliability been on your uncles 2005 suburban ?

Re: Time to buy my first Chevy truck at 55?
real reliable as far as i know... he drives from troy to st.louis and back everyday and no issues that i recall? my uncles is a 2005 z71sub w/i believe the 5.7l vortec and my dad has a 2004 z71 p/u w the 5.3l vortec my dads is a ext cab long bed bot are 4x4 there was some kind of recall for the front cv joints or something like that in those years but if the vehicle you are looking for is a certified pre owned then it should be already checked out before you even look at it... i know my dad bought his brand new and still hasnt got them changed out.. but reliability has not been an issue at all and my dad puts a bunch of miles on his and the same with my uncle... i personally dont like the new bodystyle either but i have seen some pretty cool 4x4 ones rolling around. if i was to go for a newer truck it would be a 2000 or 2001 i lke that front... but my dads is prety cool too.
