pics of backhalfs, 4-links, air bag setups

First I wanted to say this site is great, I've been searching through here for a few weeks. I have a '69 c-10 lwb that I want to make into a swb and have the body sit about an inch off the ground. I am on a budget and was wondering what the best way to do this will be?

Re: pics of backhalfs, 4-links, air bag setups

If you are a capable welder, the least expensive/best way to achieve what you're looking for would be a weld-in notch, and a four-link/air bag set-up. The factory trailing arms won't allow you to get down quite that low.

Sparkyhunt,

You can find some good stuff through Porterbuilt & KP Components. I believe my entire truck is built from the two. Good Luck

Re: pics of backhalfs, 4-links, air bag setups

I want to do a 4-link and air bag setup. I also want to raise the height of the floor in the bed so won't have the big hump in the middle. Would I be better off redoing the whole backhalf or doing the c-notch. I have not been able to find any pictures of anybody redoing the backhalf with a 4-link setup. If doing the c-notch is a better option, what would be the best way to re support the floor of the bed.

The hard part about all this, is that there's so many ways to accomplish the end result. With that being said, the multiple options will all have advantages and disadvantes... you'll just have to decide where you want to compromise. The least expensive/best route would be the weld-in notch and a four-link with a long panhard bar, sleeved bags mounted outside the rails over the axle.

A back-half will easily get it done, but it takes a lot more time and ability.

As for the bedfloor, just make some spacers to raise the bed floor supports to the desired height, and make a new flange where the floor can bolt in like the factory had it.

Any pictures of either setup, also what do you mean by sleeved bags? This will be my first time using air bags and want to do it right the first time. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

You can see some good pics of a "sleeved bag" and how they should be run in this thread: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...=274729&page=5

Re: pics of backhalfs, 4-links, air bag setups

I wish I could afford one of your kits. How low can I go with just a C-notch, airbags, and the stock arms? I might be biting off more than I can chew with the 4-link. Again any pictures would be great.

Here's a pic of the same truck aired out with an ART Strong Arm kit front and rear. This is as low as you can go without cutting the bed, or removing the front fenderwells. This height can easily be achieved with factory trailing arms and c-notch. If you want it lower, you have to start cutting stuff. THIS IS COMPLETELY DEFLATED AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN AT THIS HEIGHT.

Re: pics of backhalfs, 4-links, air bag setups

do you have any pics of it at ride height? could you still be able to "use" a truck with an ART kit? and by use i mean haul stuff and maybe go on gravel roads? since i dont live in the city.

You can set it up to be very functional, and use it just like a normaly suspended truck. The main advantage of the air is its adjustability.

The ride height would be approx. 3" higher than the first pic, and the fully inflated height would be:

Re: pics of backhalfs, 4-links, air bag setups

Nate this ones for you,
So what's the best rear set up for the most height? Meaning I am pitting the rear rails on the ground. I want to be able to get the most lift possible.

In order to get the most lift, you need to run a double convoluted bag levered at around 1.5:1. That will get you in the 10"+ range. With that much lift, I would recommend a wishbone or a watt's link to locate the differential laterally. If you're looking for a kit, let me know and I can put something together for you, or help you find what you need! PM or e-mail me.
