Thanks Joe!!

sooo.... I have crew cabs on the brain

I played around with a suburban in paint

from this
Name: sub with smoothies.jpg
Views: 7664
Size: 49.7 KB

to this
Name: sub crew concept 2.JPG
Views: 7631
Size: 20.5 KB

by my guesstimate the bed is around 5 feet...

anyone here know if the sub body mounts and the crew cab mounts are at all alike?
I see decent subs all over the place for pretty cheap....If I can't swing the crew cab that I'm hoping for (please, please. please!!! hopefully I will know Saturday)....
I'm thinking maybe mating my short bed rear frame to a sub frame or just stretching the sub frame...as I type it... it sounds like a ton of work....but if I can pick up a $300 sub and use the back of my cab and bed it might be worth it to this cheap-ass
anyone have any ideas or suggestions...maybe done some research about the similarities in the crew and the sub frames? I would appreciate it...or tell me I'm crazy...or whatever

As the great and powerful FRIZ says "IT IS ONLY METAL"!!!!

Re: I'm one of you guys now

Joe just come down here and buy this crewcab, and save yourself the headache your going through.

I think the suburban route would be a lot more work than you think. However you could just make it a crewcab unibody, and just cut the back part of the top off the burb, and make a back of the cab. However, still sounds like more work than the crewcab swb that is sitting here just waiting for a good home.

I did find out, thanks to a new thread on here, the crew mounts and the sub mounts are the same.....
I want the crew down there, but, the money just ain't happening now...so I will continue to dream......I also have been thinking about just splitting my frame under my cab, extending it the required amount, adding the middle cab mount (or cutting what I need from a sub frame) and picking up a crew-cab.....cabs at Pull-A-part are pretty reasonable, and they had 2 crews when I was down there......it will all have to wait though......

did some work on my '80.....I got sick of the ride with my cut coils and leafs removed, it is my DD, so I went to Pull-A-Part and picked up some front springs out of a 1990 suburban, $7.50 each
cleaned them up a bit and sprayed them with some rusteolum dark machine gray......My son and I put the springs in Monday night.....some of you might say I'm moving in the wrong direction......but i have a method to my madness, I promise...here are some pics (I haven't put the leafs back in the rear yet so it looks like it is slightly lower in the rear, I'm hoping the coil springs settle a bit, since they haven't had weight on them in who knows how long, I will get the rears back in this weekend if not sooner)

Re: I'm one of you guys now

You may be going in the wrong direction for some one here, but being it's a DD then comfort is a primary direction.

I need to head back up to Pull-A-Part and check out some more things. I don't really need anything at this point, just never know what you may come across.

well I did read your post and was going to respond when you posted, but I guess the older I get, the worse my ADD is

4x4 right? I keep looking at it thinking maybe I want a 4by
I wish I had the money and space for all my wants

I am planning on getting the ride right, then 3 inch spindles in the front and a flip in the rear to bring it back down..

I am also going to swap to a 73-74 front grill, trim and lights...hopefully soon

Re: I'm one of you guys now

Silver stripe I think breaks it the best. You could always go with the stock chrome on the top, and just not put it on the lower part.

I did think about the trim, but I don't think I want the trim on there.....

I didn't even notice the colors were flipped.

I think they look good either way. Especially since I didn't even notice the change.

The maroon on top looks a lot like a Chevy Sport. I like it. Break it with orange to get it to stand out.

I will have to search for it

Check this out: http://www.73-87.com/Special_Editions/Chevy_Sport.htm

I know the orange sounds a little goofy, but it would actually look good.
