1965 C10 - rear bumper license plate bracket bolts - info ?
1965 C10 - rear bumper license plate bracket bolts - info ?
I have a '65 c10... and I bought a used rear bumper license plate bracket for it. My bumper does not have the bolt holes in it, so I'm curious about what size bolts and things were used? The ones I've seen in person look like the carriage bolts with the square part before the thread that it seats into. Any information on the bolts or measurements on the hole placement is appreciated. Thanks, -W |

They're 1/4" carriage bolts. The length is not critical since it's hidden under the bumper and bracket. But, how are you gonna get the square holes in your bumper?

With the proper drill size, the square shoulder of a carriage bolt will draw into the round hole and hold itself from twisting. The width of the holes is determined by the factory holes in the license plate bracket. I hope this help -W.

I'll try to take pictures... if I can remember to. A machine tool shop friend of mine said that one way to do it would be to drill the corners, drill the hole, then finish it off with a file. -W |

A 3/16" hole with the corners filed out with a square mill bastard file will do the trick also.

my rear bumper is painted...
I imagine you'd have to do the holes in the chrome bumper, before it was chromed. -W |
