Opinions on "New Shoes" for a '46, Please
I've got the black ones now, they're powder coated and in beautiful condition (which is why I can't stand the idea of sanding and rattle canning them...but I considered it!); and while I think they're very true to the era, I also think they're kinda boring since my truck is staying in black primer awhile.
I have a chance to get the 15x7 red/chrome Rallys w/police caps (also in excellent condition) for only $260. What do you think? My truck has 5 lugs on 4-3/4" pattern; Jag rear end. Also complicating matters is I lost (GRRRR...) one of my one-year-only '52 caps on the drive home the other night. I plan on keeping the steelies, just not using them all the time. My longer term plan is to get Torque Thrusts with gray cast centers and polished lips Last edited by Dan in Pasadena; 11-10-2009 at 12:49 AM. |

Im taking the black steelies over the red rallies. The red wheels are nice but on flat black cars they seem way too overdone. but hey, its your truck, do what you want.
PS: go back track your drive and find that damn thing! |

Thanks 50adrod, I agree.
The guy selling the Ralley's says his buddy painted the chrome centers without priming or sanding it, so its in excellent condition. If that's true, I MAY try just taking the red off to see if they're usable as all chrome, but I agree the red looks good in those pictures. |

Re: Opinions on "New Shoes" for a '46, Please
I think I've decided against the Ralleys.
The seller was only willing to go down to $260. There is a local seller that's an eBay vendor selling four new chrome Rally with police caps for only $299. They're blems, but I went over and saw them and mostly the blemishes are only very minor scratches...if you pick through them. But now I've got to find a single 1952 Chevy bowtie dog dish hubcap! |

Keep what you have, but put some 3" wide whites on those rims.

Re: Opinions on "New Shoes" for a '46, Please
I'd like to have my rims powder coated red, but I don't think I'm a wide white kindaguy. Maybe its my age (54) but when I was a teenager, anyone that would have had wide whites woulda got the hell beat outta him! ha ha!
Don't get me wrong, I LIKE wide whites, I'm just not sure they're for me. |
