Newby from Australia
Hi there guys, I just bought me a 72 Suburban. Its Blue, from CA and has a 454 in it and has 8 lug wheels, mid 90s seats and Ricer wheels (which I hope change to standard style wheels) I haven't physically seen it yet (only pictures), its on a ship steaming to Sydney. I hope arrives ok? I'll will mainly use it to tow my 69 Vette to Circuit tracks and Drag strips. I picked the name 72 DIRTY RAT because my name is 69 DIRTY RAT on the Corvette Forums!
I have a question about my vin, I looked through some threads but couldnt find the info I want. The Vin is CCE262F128191 C = 4x2 C= ???? E= V8 gas 2= 3/4 ton 6= ? Suburban? 2= 1972 F= Flint 128191= 28191st? What is the 2nd C?, 6? and 28191 sounds a bit unrealistic seeing it was built in 71 (72 model year). What month would they have started the 72 model production? The New Suburban ![]() ![]() And some pix of my Vette just for the hell ov it! ![]() ![]()

Re: Newby from Australia
actually....those rims look good on that truck, especially with the nice paint job. just keep the rest of the truck stock and you won't be too ghetto-ricerish. its going to be right at home hauling that vette. i'd love to have one of each too....but alas my 72 burb allows me to have a vintage vehicle that can carry the family, tow trailers and still have a chevy v8 under the hood! excuse me while i go wash the drool from my face......

Re: Newby from Australia
I tried looking up your numbers to help you out but my book seemed to be more confusing than helpful. From what I gathered the second C means that the vehicle was a conventional cab (I.E. Not a motorhome chassis, or box truck chassis). The six I was unable to decode at all. All I can tell you is I have a 72 suburban that has the same exact VIN all the way thru the F for Flint, Michigan. Looks like your suburban was made a couple thousand units before mine was made though.

Re: Newby from Australia
Check out an LMC Truck book in the front....this is what it gives me for your burb VIN
C=Chevrolet (Manufacture) (Typically only the 1972 trucks had this C) C=Conventional (Chassis Designation) (the other option here is K= 4 wheel drive) E=8 cylinder (engine) 2= 5200-7500 3/4 ton (GVW range) 6= Suburban (Model type) 2= 1972 (Model Year) F= Flint (Assembly Plant) 128191= 28191 unit built (vehicle Number) Hope this helps ya!

Re: Newby from Australia
Thanks for the help Guys!
gcburdic, that makes a bit more sense! I havent seen the broadcast sheet on the glovebox door yet, it would be interesting to know what options she came with. I am getting used to the wheels but I'll have to see whether I like them when it arrives. I saw on another thread that you can fit 16in 8lug wheels (rather than 16.5in)from upto 85model(?) onto the 72, does anybody know where I can get some standard looking 8 luggers from? whether its from a 72 & earlier or up to a 85. I need 5! OR do I try Flebay.

Re: Newby from Australia
Welcome from east coast Maryland.
If there is a ford dealer nearby, they have a nice steel 16" truck wheel that will take the original caps! I'm just thinking that shipping originals that far might be expensive.

Re: Newby from Australia
Hi 72DirtyRat, love the 'vette and the burb, my 3/4 ton burb has got 16" steels from a 90's 8 stud truck, i'll find a picture
If you click on my user name there should be a pic of my burb from the side , and there are some pics on the last but one page of ''lets see some burb pics'' They are a bit on the 'inset' side for my taste but tyres are easier to get for them, welcome to the site dude ! Re: Newby from Australia
Thanks for the welcomes!!
I'll try and look locally for some steel wheels, if not I'll try and get a cheap 16in set out of the US, as long as they look standardish (with the original caps) thats all I want. I looked at your wheels Dragsterbus, wheels seem to fit ok, are they original hubcaps? I couldn't tell.

Re: Newby from Australia
The caps are the 90s ones that came with the wheels , The wheels don't look too bad but could do with a bit more offset, good luck !

Re: Newby from Australia
I hope the burb is ok cause I havent actually seen it yet!!!! Its on route downunder!
The vette is technically a ZL-1 clone (1 of the 2 ZL-1s made was a white with black stripe,I did black/white stripe), which includes an Aluminum Big Block (ZL-1 Option) but its a 540 cuber! I havent done a proper 1/4 yet because I need to buy some slicks/wheels for the drags, I cant get traction! I mainly made it for circuit racing/time trial stuff with the occasional drags! ![]()
