Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

no no im talking Procharged Ls7 crate into a redone vette that had rearended a tahoe... had the front clip replaced and the crater bolted in an yes i know it wasent even close to being "maxed out" what ever really is? went along and did its business with a High 9' (9.85 i believe) Car sounded amazing and i think he could have rung alittle more out of it but not sure-
Now turn to the little pink camaro, running a 9.62 first pass of the night! no blower, turbos or nothing. i think he said a solid roller and about a 200 shot? i know it was geared better for a fact but still it was like nothin else! the worst 60ft i have ever seen to seriously like a warmup in the water box but still out ran that vette

ls7 big block? i thought 454's were LS6's back in the day an a LS7 was a strictly new vette powerplant??

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

I don't think they put LS7s into production cars but you could get them over the counter. If it wasn't for the gas crunch, insurence hikes, and smog junk of the earily 70's I'm sure they would have put them in cars.

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

Me thinkst we are taking about two different animals. Yes, the LS6 came out in the '70 Chevelle but, as sweet70beast suggested, the LS7 was an over the counter GM crate engine that was never offered in a production car. Don't think you'll see too many with blowers as they came from the General with 12.5:1 pistons. A buddy of mine ran one in his '67 camero back in the '80's. They were VERY expensive, something like $4000 IIRC back when you could buy a new chevy pickup loaded for about $13000.

These engines are awsome. They have 6 bolt mains & the heads flow very well from the factory. I drive my 9 second camaro for real. I drive it to work, take road trips across the coutry etc. The engine has not broken yet. Now the transmission has blown 4 times but I think the new one is going to hole (hopefully)

Simply put, the true LSx engine is an aluminum block
The iron blocks are truck engines, but just as capable. Weight difference is only 65lbs
Truck engines short blocks are esentially the same with small differences like:
~Serpentine system (vette's accy's closest, then F-body's, then Trucks stick out far)
~Intake manifolds (trucks' tallest)
~Exhaust manifolds (each application is different, TONS of them out there)
~Sensors. (several differences. With the right harness, and PCM, makes the swap job simple

The engines come in sizes:
4.8L
5.3L
5.7L
6.0L
6.2L (cadillac only)
Vortec 4800, 5300, 5700, 6000, 6200

There are a few Front wheel drive vehicles with LSx engines, but they don't swap easy, and the block castings are different.
Such as:
Impala, Monte Carlo, Buick Lacrosse, and the Grand Prix

Truck motors come in aluminum as well, note L33, L92, L76 amoung a few.

LSx is generic for Gen III/IV motors. So fake LSx is a misnomer. Vortec is much better term for the truck motors.

RPO codes
GENERATION III
LS1 - 5.7 (346 CI) - Between 305-350 hp and 335-375 ft·lb

*Basically the same as an LS1 but with better heads (243 head castings) a more aggressive cam, and LS6 intake manifold make up the power differences.

TRUCK ENGINES - STILL GENERATION III
The truck engines are very much like the LS1/LS6 and are still classified as a Gen III engine. They are mainly iron with the exception of the LM4/L33, and as a result weigh approximately 80+ lbs. more. All the parts from the LS series can bolt on to these engines and is recommended for any swap as the accessories and intake manifold usually fit better from an F-body. The 4.8 and 5.3 can both be punched out to a 5.7 (346 Cubic Inches) simply with a bigger bore (the 5.3) or a bigger bore and the 5.3 crank (in the 4.8's case).

the most obvious would be the aluminum block. I have not found an aluminum block yet, the most common are the early 5.3's just because of age etc.

The nice thing about the steel 5.3's is you can bore them to 5.7 ci. This is what i did on my last 5.3 I built.

Re: What enging do you want in your truck?

I have a 2001 LS1 out of a corvette with a SSR t-56. Its an animal with the 4.10 gears and simple mods.

If you go lsx, do not, i repeat, DO NOT put a gen IV transmission behind a gen III block. This is what I have and it was nothing but problems.
