Factory Extended Cab?
I've seen a few of these over the years and always assumed they were "owner-built", but can one of the board experts verify? Thanks,

Re: Factory Extended Cab?
That extra cab window just doesn't fit with the rest of the truck... However, I'll back that up by saying whoever did that job did about a MILLION times better job than I could have done!

Re: Factory Extended Cab?
There was a couple of coach companies that modified trucks for the railroad and utility companies. Not factory by a long shot, but there are a few of them still around. WES

Re: Factory Extended Cab?
I saw one here a while back referenced as a railroad truck and it too had a strange back window. Any idea how I would check to see if this is one of them?

Re: Factory Extended Cab?
I don't know if there is a way or not. However you should be able to do a search of these boards and I know there have been several threads about them. A couple even have pictures of the brochures. WES

Re: Factory Extended Cab?
Most of the modified trucks for the power utility ,Logging and R/R's were the larger trucks. Even the government had some. Many of them were in Wes' neck of the woods They were doing them even back in the forties and fifties. There was not much use for an extended cab pickup. Most of the pu's were produced in 4 doors. I have never seen an extended cab done by a conversion company for commercial use. I have seen modified suburbans into strange trucks from back then but never a X-cab. their really was no point in it.

Re: Factory Extended Cab?
I know that in the 60's (60-66) there was three coach companies that were converting long wheel base trucks to extended cab, three door and crew cab trucks, like others have said, these were few and far between, maybe 50-200 trucks done per year and again they were for government( forest service) rail road and large construction companies. They cut the stepside and fleetside beds down and they look very wierd. I found one in Jacksboro Texas a few years ago, it was a c60 truck. My dad purchased the truck and built a 3/4 ton crew long bed truck out of it.
From what I have found out these companies made the limo subs and such too. Clyde65

Re: Factory Extended Cab?
In that picture the extended cab portion is from a 76-79 ford extended cab.

The top of the rear cab is definitely Ford in that pic.
