I think right close to 9-1/2 will set it on a long wheel base frame and have the right length left for a standard short bed box. At least I hope it does. Let's just say you aren't the only one thinking along these lines and I'm trying to figure out how to get mine to look like it belongs that way.

Or close to 12" and then it could go on a 1 ton frame....

Well those are two item I had not thought of, the long W/B or the 1 ton.
That will save some energy in adding to the frame, now on a qwest for a different chassis!

I'm sure it's easier said than done, BUT, how would it look if you extended the doors and windows the same width as the extended portion. It would kinda look stock with a long doors and windows. I myself have never seen it done. Or haven't paid enough attention.

Do you mean 5" on the cab and 5" on the doors or just 10" on the doors?

No, I was thinking if you add 10" to the cab. Add 10" to the doors also. May be a chop with a slight rake. Like I said, It's easier said than done. I just think it would stand out better than extended cabs with the added sheet metal or the small windows added to the sides. This is what I'm talking about.

This is pretty awsome work. This definatly seporates the boys and the men. I thought about this for my truck but was way to chicken. I've always concidered the roof is the hard part, so many compound curvs. Keep up the work and photo

Can you put them side by side in Photoshop so I can see the difference.

The roof was the easy part, just cut them both long and overlap, we still have 2" to play with on the roof and floor.
I have 3 sets of doors so we will look into that option!

Somewhere there is a cab that has been extended in the doors. Looks better (red) but I think 10" is an aweful lot. 5+5 might be something you can hide a bit easier. Keep it up.

I don't have Photoshop. I used MS paint (hence the crude lines). Remember I'm a dumb combat Marine. I'm better with weapons and hump'n than I am with computers. I'm sure someone here could do a better job. Here's my go at it.

I first saw your extended cab post yeterday and immediately thought of stretching the doors. I guess great minds think alike. I'm a big guy, 6'2" 300 lbs so bigger doors make sense to me. I have been contemplating abandoning my stock 3100 chassis that I put a 1980 1/2 ton front suspension on, (see build thread) and go with an s10 swap. I am about to get my hands on a 122 in wb s10 cassis for practicaly nothing. This would be basically 5 inches too long and thought about exteding the cab (including the doors) would be about right for a guy my size. I have 2 AD cabs already so would not be to expensive. Just lots of work in fabricating.

That looks much better, just have to study the doors and see where the cuts can be made with the least amount of fab work

Not trying to be negative about the idea of making the doors longer but I don't think it looks right in the modified pictures above. I think lengthening the doors is a good idea, but I think also continuing the quarter windows sort of "around" the corner the same relative amount to the original length of the doors would be the best approach. (Yeah, its easy "spending" someone else's time and money, ha ha - sorry!)

I'm not able to Photoshop or anything but if you take a photo from exactly the side and measured the PROPORTIONAL dimension of the door window and the quarter window, then transfer that relative distance, to me THAT would be the most correct look.

A chop with lengthend doors = Long and low. I think the proprtions would look nice. Have to also think about inner door panels, electric window kits etc. How would all this be effected and overcome. Nothing is impossible.

You know the more I look at the stretched chop, the more I like it. The door panels, if made out of wood/glass wrapped in leather would be the easy part of this whole build. Electric windows would also be somewhat easy. This my be because I've done them before. The stretched and chop...I wouldn't know where to start. If I ever build another truck, I'd like to go this route. It's not something you see to often. In my case never.

I've got some spare doors, maybe I need a blade and cord connected to my sawzall... How hard could it possibly be to do what you did with the cab, cut one long and one long the other way and try it out. You could at least see what an extended door looks like. You'd have to extend the strap for the door latch, the window regulator may need to move somehow so it is centered. Power windows fixes that anyway.

Nice work on Oobie but all I see is DOOR. It needs a break but I also am not a fan of that big side window in the red truck. Maybe a 50/50 split like you are doing would be better. Or the chop and no vent window...

there was a yellow 54 that has the doors streched. was featured in alot of mags a few years back. know thats very vague but you might be able to find it
