damn trannys
so my room mates k5 starts acting strange wont shift out of 1st gear some times it would so im boggled on what it could be i told her to check the tranny fluid first she said it was full so tonight we went out and got a new filter and gasket we were going to change it tomarrow so she goes down the street and calls saying it will only move about 5mph and its in the middle of a main street got in my truck towed it back deside what the hell change the fluid tonight instead i figured it was going to take a while always does teadder toddering all the fluid out of the trans pan so i start unbolting the 16bolts and no fluid get it all down and drained a total of a half a QT out of the hole thing and it was black finished the filter and gasket get it all filled back up and RUNS PERFECT no damage to the trans which is awesome!!!
then to find out the dipstick that i told her to check a couple days ago isnt the original its definaly longer cause it hits the bottom of the pan which could probably explain why it was reading full and no one ever did anything about the shifting |

Re: damn trannys
It may seem good, but it isn't. Time to start saving up for the rebuild.

Re: damn trannys
It will have some seriously burned clutches in there being run that dry. You start burning things up at only a quart low and she was three and a half low. Who knows how hard she pushed it trying to get it to move while very low on fluid.
It is only a matter of time before it goes out completely. Have her start saving for another trans.
