I'm a big fan of building "YOUR" truck the way you want it, but on the other hand I sure would like to see how it comes out, It almost seems impossible, but Im sure if someone say's he can do it, it can be done, good luck and post some pictures.

Why did you pull the 235 for something more economical when what's going in there is less economical?

The 235 locked up on me on the way home from work one night and the trans lost reverse, so they both needed to come out anyways. I want the truck economical enough to make the 500 mile trip to visit my parents on the holidays and not have to stop every hour for gas. Those are some beautiful pics Eric. Hopefully mine will be that clean when I'm finished.

you'll get it , all it takes is blood , sweat, and gears .... ooh , did I forget a large pile of cash!!!! no really just sit down and make a list of what YOUR perfect truck should have , your own ideas ... not someone else's . try to be different . why be normal ? but if you need ideas- there are alot of good people on this site willing to help ! keep in touch. I can appreciate someone wanting to keep things cheap

I don't think I could ever spend the $$ on a high dollar crossmember. They sure look purdy, but they are just to expensive for white trash folks such as myself

But I think most of us are just trying to figure out how the camaro front end will work

Also, keep in mind that while the front end won't cost anything, you'll have to spend $$ to rebuild or fix any of the worn out 25 year old parts.

I had a couple friends help me subframe two of my cars (48 Chev & 48 Pontiac) with Nova subs. The subs were dirt cheap, but I spent a good chunk of $$ with new tie rods, ball joints, ect.

There was alot of work with getting everthing togerther (boxing plates and such) not to mention mounting the front sheet metal and radiator
The subs were well worth it, but these were 40s cars with crap suspension.

My 64 has drop spindles and springs, and rides very well. There are sooo many upgrades for the stock suspension. Even with a 73-87 crossmember, you'd still be $$ ahead.

We are not trying to pick on you, just trying to give you some advice.

Very good advice tapeworm. Camaro subframes (70-82), Mustang II's, Nova's and such are very common swaps for cars and trucks from the 40's and 50's. They have a narrow track width and these swaps make more sense. I've yet to see someone use a car front suspension on one of our trucks, much less a strut style suspension.

I can' t wait to see the results of this project.

DC I think the consensus is we are just trying to keep you from a major head ache One of you points was side motor mounts (If your frame is allready cut
this doesn't matter) The stock crossmember from a '73-87 has chev motor mounts that bolt to the top of the frame and give you good mounts. While I admire ingenuity making things different for the sake of difference is a head ache. On the other hand if you and your friend can fab this together successfully it will be cool at least in not being the same. Good luck

I know the Camaro is free, how about how about finding a 80s Chev half ton, with a 305 or 350 and 700R4? I'm sure you could find a beater for well under $1k. You could use the engine, tranny, front end, rear end, and even the column and brake master.

Also, if you drove it home, you would know the engine and tranny work good.

The 700r4 would be a little more work than a TH350, If the you should be able to get respectable gas mileage.

Just ideas wandering around in my head.......

Nope, not yet. Weather and life in general has gotten in the way of any progress on my truck.
