Whats a good Accelerator pedal linkage to use....?

OK, i took out the stock pedal and thru the firewall lever...

I then bought a Lokar Eliminator pedal and cable assembly, and I am not happy with it after a couple of months.....

Anyone have any good recomendations, or if not, can you steer me to a company sells the original style pedal and linkage....

Truck is a 1964 GMC Fleetside......Carbed....350....if it makes a difference

Thanks

Chad

For original linkage I'd try Tony LILRED66, he specializes in 4-5-6 Chevys and may have what you need:

The other options are ebay, wrecking yard, craigslist, etc.

If you want to return to an original pedal, I'd look for an NOS item on ebay. I bought one of the aftermarket pedals, and within a few months it was bent into a C and started sticking on the ball end of the linkage due to the bad angle. Cheap offshore steel inside, very disappointing.

Since I had already tossed out my original pedal and preferred the early gasser look, I upgraded to a 60's era Cal Custom aluminum pedal with a block of delrin glued to the back to act as a bearing surface against the original ball end of the firewall linkage.

Re: Whats a good pedal linkage to use....?

Hmm, there are a few options but it depends on what your taste is, there are alot of aftermarket set ups that are really nice. I would suggest actually going out and looking at some products at some rod shops or even a swop meet before purchasing due to quality issues. May I ask why you did not like the Lokar E? I have seen many people use it and are super happy so that was the way I was going to go?

Thanks

Well, it seems to be set up for a roadster with a flat floor more than the curved floor of the truck where the pedal would mount......and getting the screws in it was a major PITA......I had a problem getting the full travel out of the linkage....

Re: Whats a good pedal linkage to use....?

64GMC, I have the same pedal assy, I would really like to ditch it and use something for my LS that would look and feel right. I have a pedal assy from a 72 that when I get time, I am going to try to adapt it, but I am always looking for a better solution.

Re: Whats a good pedal linkage to use....?

I used a pedal out of a mid to late 80's p/u from the junk yard, it has worked ok for me. All I had to do was drill 3 holes for the mount on the firewall and a hole for the cable.

I didn't worry about neatness because this area will get Dynamat in the future. All you have to do is mount it where it will feel comfortable and bolt it up.

Re: Whats a good pedal linkage to use....?

Gregg,

Did you use that plastic part of the pedal assy in the eng compartment? did you have to "adjust" the rod any?

Re: Whats a good pedal linkage to use....?

I used the complete later model assembly, including the cable and bracket on the carb. The cable goes through the firewall and attaches to the bracket.
