Yes there was a 322 v8 engine and a 348 V8 Workmaster engine in buses and large truck above 2 tons but he asked about the pickup engine.

Re: Future gasser '57 chevy

Slowed down for awhile because of the winter blues. I finally motivated myself to get going again. I installed a new power brake booster, master cylinder and brake lines. See new pictures!

Got rusted and lazy!

Re: Future gasser '57 chevy

I went to the Puyallup Swap Meet and found these goodies for my gasser project truck. Front tires are Coker 5.60x15 and rear tires are Firestone cheaters 8.20x15 with smoothie wheels and spider center caps. What do you think!

Big & Little look!

Looking good. The brake pedal looks like a Pirate Jacks unit.

Re: Future gasser '57 chevy

My opinion
I dont think you will like the way it drives with blocks under front springs
and as due to turning etc the front suspension tends spit blocks out when pushed hard ,,Just took out a set of blocks someone had put under my 70 4x4
What I would consider if it were mine esp since you already have leaf
springs would be to find a straight tube axel like lots used to run in 55 etc race cars back in the sixtys
should be pretty much a bolt in and would give you the front end lift you need along with a real race car look !

Re: Future gasser '57 chevy

This is the case of one step forward and two steps backwards! Discovered that the frame I was using had been a long bed frame and was shortened to a short bed frame and was cut wrong and the rear end and brackets were moved back 2.5 inches back from the stock location. Did not look right so I rounded up a second stock short bed frame - tore it down - had it sand blasted and repainted chasis black - and refitted with all the parts from the first frame. Progress is slow but moving forward.

Set backs are not fun!

Re: Future gasser '57 chevy

I located a donor 1957 chevy truck for the front fenders and hood - made arrangements to have the cab, fenders, hood, battery tray and other pieces sandblasted. I am very happy with the results. We have some rust issues on the inside and outside cab corners and lower fenders which we are going to address on the upcoming weeks.

Forward progress on the move!

Looks cool dude, I agree that a straight tube is the way to go, if you put longer shackles on it will take all the caster angle out and will be 'twitchy'
you could correct the caster with wedge shaped blocks between the axle and springs but it's a lot of effort and still won't be right , straight axle all the way dude

Thumbs up Re: Future gasser '57 chevy

I started the patch panel repairs on the cab inside and outside corners, both rocker step panels and front fender rear lower sections with my good friend Randy. This repairs are going slow but we are moving in a forward direction.

Life is good!

Re: Future gasser '57 chevy

Thanks for asking on the progress on my truck. I had the hood and both fenders straightened and blocked primered by a good friend - they came out very nice. I located a very nice set of rust free doors in Portland, Oregon. The 400 mile round trip was very well worth the drive. They were media blasted very clean and just need some small body work and primer blocked finished and should be ready to go.
I have been working welding up the unused holes on the fire wall and they are ready for filler and primer. Pictures to follow soon!

What a task!
