I bought this for $2,700 including a brand new Oak Bed kit with hardware. What do you guys think? In addition to the fender, I have to replace the passenger rocker panel. It has a straight 6, manual brakes, manual steering, and 3 speed on the column. I 'm convinced it was a bargain, and I'm the second registered owner!

Welcome to the forums Bruce.
I'd say you did alright with that one. Gonna replace the fender and rocker and drive it as is or do you have big plans for it?
It looks about like my 69 when I got it.

According to how under the hood loooks, Id say you stole it, especially with a new floor kit too. All that manual stuff can be upgraded and Id leave in the 6 and put HEI on it. The only challenge with the 6 is finding a complete PS set up, but you guys in CA seam to have everything........

to the forum from Montana. Thats a great looking truck and a heck of a deal Id say. Should give you plenty of enjoyment, and what better place to start then this forum! If you could build a truck strictly off of knowledge...1. we'd all have cherry rides and 2. we'd all have a lot more money! lol

What are your plans for the truck shy of the things already mentioned?

Here's a list of purchases to date:
- Power Brake Booster (original used)
- Power Steering Gearbox and Pump (w/Bracket)
- 5.7 L V8 from a 94 full size. Edelbrock RPM Air Gap Manifold with 650 Edelbrock Carb
- 350TH Trans (Rebuilt)
- Used A/C system (no pump)
- Driveshaft (needs to be shortened)
- Automatic Steering Column (original used)
- New Dash Bezel (New)
- Replacement Rocker Panel (New)
- Replacement fender (original used)
- Replacement Grille surround (original used)
- New Mirrors, but I can't see out of the passenger side!

I was able to get all the parts above for about $1,300 mostly from Craigslist. I think I have all the parts to convert it to power everything, V8, automatic with A/C.

I almost forgot the wheels, 15x8 and 15x10 Corvette style Rallys powder coated black (no caps or rings) another $300.

What do you guys think about keeping it the original color, Med Grn? I was toying with black, or a black and silver two tone with the original color as the pinstripe.

I have more than enough to keep me busy for a long time. I'll post updates as I make progress.

Guess what I found underneath the carpet...the original key! I pulled the carpet up to inspect for rust and there it was. It hadn't even been punched out to fit on your key ring. The key I have I needed to jiggle the driver door lock, but the original works like a charm. I made a copy and that works great too. You never know what you'll find when you start the disassembly.

My buddy pulled up the carpet on his VW Bus, he found a little mirror with a razor blade on top of it. I guess the boys in the factory really knew how to party.

dabruce15, I think you scored in a big way when you purchased that stepper. IMO, I love the color, but then again I might be a little biased.

Can't wait to see this build come together. And I6's are still pretty cool.

Very cool truck, if you pull the seat, you might find the original build sheet hidden in the springs!

Before youreplace that driver fender dig around on here for a bit. I just saw where a member made a dent puller plate that will take out that dent beautifully. somebody help me out here. Secondly spend some clay bar and buffer time on that paint and you might be surprised.

The lower pocket of the fender is rusted through. So I opted to replace it with one I found on craigslist for $50. It had holes in it for molding, so I'm filling the holes.
