c notch help

I just started workin on the 5 lug swap on my 66 gmc using a 77 c10 I snagged up for 250.00. My question is where can I find a cnotch for it I have used the search button and came up with so many result figured it would just be easier to ask you guys myself. my plans asre to go as low as possible with bags and with a lot of mods to the bed. let me know where you all pick up your notches and about how much it set you back.......i went to a local shop (MWG)here guy wanted 800+ dollars for just building the notch.

$800 for a step-notch or c-notch? If it was for the latter.... ouch!

ECE, McGauhy's, P.O.L., & CPP all sell bolt-in c-notch kits that will fit your frame for less than $200 . . ....

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

he said it was for the large c notch because it would be custom built and because the way the frame curves.

Like SCOTI said that seems pricey , there are a couple of build threads on here with Porterbilts (dropmember)pieces that are designed for this application

Ok. The 'large' c-notch is referred to as a 'step-notch' as it removes the entire section of frame above the rear axle tubes vs. a c-notch that's only removing a portion of the frame. That takes a little more bracing which adds to the costs.

800 just to build the piece seems high - but if thats what theyre goin for I need to start fabricating Do you weld? Not knowing your ability level Id suggest trying to do as much as possible yourself and getting your buddy to asssit only where required. Cutting the pieces from plate stock is the simple part - gluing them together is where the skill comes in.

How low is as low as possible in your mind? Literally on the ground is as low as possible and pretyt sure that does require the step notch. Someone else can chime in with specific measuremnts, but the bolt in c-notch can get ya pretty low and those are realtively cheap and simple to install.
