Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
I stayed on the couch all of saturday watching "District 9" 24 hour ticket. Pretty good movie I must say. Sunday afternoon went to look at what was supposed to be an 85 cheyenne c10 (did they make them that year?) Then me and my buddy Smoke dogg(forum member) went to check out and joy ride a 65 GMC stepside 3 on tree for sale The guy actually had a vert 66 lemans and a 69 GTO. I worked out a deal for the same guy to buy an all original 56 stepside C10 in my neighborhood.
I'd say my day was pretty awesome. Still waiting on a fan shroud for my Jeep fan conversion( I know i'm a slacker) Oh and made a new buddy"Old Rusty C-10" Sledge |

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
Installed a Air Lift brand "Auto Pilot Digital Air Management" system this weekend. Unlike the Autoloc unit I previously installed, the AirLift piece worked like a charm.
Met with a builder that's going to enlarge my garage. He's going to build a 10X22 room on the back of my garage. The new room will be home for most all my tools, band saw, welder, shelves, drill press, lathe, etc etc. I'm stoked!!

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
Yo! Finally hit the sweet spot with FRANKENTRUCK!
Besides my inoperative fuel gauge (FULLY ready to track that one down, weather permitting!), the only other problem that has plauged FRANKENTRUCK: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=301610 :has been the PCV system I engineered, as it turns out. Damned if I didn't decide to install a "high volume" oil pump from Summit when I built the engine for this truck. Yeah, my engine was oiled VERY well (at 70 psi!), but I had leaks from my valve cover grommets, especially at the pass. rear mounted PCV. I FINALLY discovered how loose the grommets were, so I sealed them with oil-resistant sealer and reversed the pass. valve cover. Now with a front pass. side PCV, breather front driver's side, all works perfect, with no leaks even if I get on the 350hp/400ftlb torque 350! I WAS getting a bit discouraged about this truck due to minor problems and leaks. Just recently, I had to fish the last 3-4" of the TH400's dipstick out of the pan after it broke off! Never even heard of that! I'm glad to finally feel like the truck is functioning well, a year after launching it onto the road. Turned out nice, and front wheel drive is bizarre! Todd.

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
I had to work Friday and Saturday night, so no drinking this weekend.
I put the "new" headlight bezels in the '82 and that's about it. I backed it over to the burn pile and threw out the old seat that was in it, and took a few pics of it.

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
tore into my parts burban and took off the door panels and broke them down to all separate pieces and planning to clean everything and attempt to restore everything from the lower carpet to the door pulls, clean the panles re-die them and whatever is not salvagable buy new and convert my non power doors on my 84" to fully powered windows and locks. I spent a while checking them while there still on the burb and the work good just the windows are kinda slow on the way down but quick on the way up. Locks work great!! I need to figure out how to rip the wiring out of there and see if i can get it to work in the truck, never done that before so this might get ugly. other then that just will be workin on the panles trying to get them ready for when im ready to hang the doors. with any luck should be sometime soon

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
Well where do I start.
Wed. I went to the junkyard and snatched up the brackets, pulleys, alternator, power steering pump and a few other things off a 94 half ton. Thursday I cleaned the 1/4" of grease off of all the brackets and stuff. And started on getting all of it bolted to the motor. Friday I spent the day running back and forth to the parts stores and working on getting everything together on the front of the motor. Got all of it bolted up. Saturday I had to rewire my factory alternator wiring to work with a 94 alternator, went though 3 filler necks and a few upper radiator hoses trying to find the right stuff to get the right angle on the hose to keep it off the alternator. Installed an under hood work light out of a 90's model half ton. Got the serpentine swap done and cleaned up the shop. |

Not much, went to the boneyard Friday got a 91 all elec cluster and a 86 cluster for a project. Found some corner trim and a 81 up console to go back and get later. He is gonna have a price on a 5.3 setup for me Mon. Was supposed to go on a funeral escort ride Sat but blowed a head gasket on the bike when I cranked it. Took some pics of the truck and posted them up. Jay

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
Cleaned and straightened the cut lines on the frame. Had a buddy come over to help/each me how to weld. Got it all welded up, cut the 6 inches off he back, and took off the 2 rear crossmembers to make room for the suburban tank. Threw the new bed on the back to take a look, and clean up the shop.

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
Took the a833's out of the garage and back to my parts shed. reversed the throttle shaft on mone of my tractor carbs so it will work without modding the linkage. Cleaned up more of the garage, almost a third of it is avaialble for use now! Took the last parts out of my collapsing shed, now just have to get the garden stuff out and into the new shed. Watched football.

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
I had a pretty productive weekend. I have finally chased most of the electrical gremlins out of my truck, just waiting on the new positive cable to arrive. I went ahead and polished my truck out some while my wife went to the movies, and it came out pretty well for working by hand. It was pretty faded on the upper surfaces, and looks a lot better. Took the leap of faith and drove it to work today, it seems to be doing just fine.

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
It was kinda cold to do much outside or in the garage. I spent most of the weekend watching tv and playing COD while the wife was busy working on a project for her cousins baby shower. I did manage to brave the cold to change the spark plugs in her 04 ION. So much for plugs that last 100K the car only has 66K on it and the Iridium plugs were worn out. Managed to pop in a new cabin air filter as well. Running around with no cabin air filter isnt a big deal to me but she said it makes a difference.

Re: What did you get done 1/24/10 edition
Here in Western NY we get a little stir crazy this time of year. So Saturday I drove 3 hours to the Canton Hot Rod show in Ohio. It was a nice little hot rod show with some cool bikes and rides. (no boxy trucks though) I also got to meet Sonny Shroyer "Enos" from the Dukes of Hazzard. After that we drove 25 min. to Summit Racing on Tallmadge OH. This place was awesome! If you have never been there....go. They pretty much dumped the entire catalog out in the showroom. I mean everything. Carbs, rims, blowers, suspension, etc. I got some goodies for the truck and headed home.
Sunday I got back in the car and drove 2hrs to the Pittsburgh Autorama. It was a great show. There was only one squarebody truck there that I didn't like. It looked like a show truck from the 80's. Anyway I drooled over even more rods and customs most of the afternoon. I even got to meet Pete Chapouris from So-Cal speed shop. All in all it was a fun weekend. I got nothing accomplished but had a blast. I got the rest of this cold winter to be constructive. |
