Advise on removing/installing lowerer ball joints???
I have to replace my lowerer ball joints on my 2000 silverado 2wd next weekend. Any tricks or advise would be greatly appreciated. I have basic hand tools, but no press to press ball joints in??? I was thinking of leavings lowerer arms on the truck and using a large c-clamp with a deep socket on one end and another socket on the other???

Re: Asdvise on removing/installing lowerer ball joints???
I used heavy duty ratchet straps to hold the spring in place and lowered it easily after I nocked the balljoint loose with a ball join fork. then go down the I hate to say it, but auto zone and rent a ball joint press. There is no way I would do this any other way. takes minutes with the right tool and it is free to use. good luck

You never mentioned (until now), that you had DJM lower control arms.
They take a press in ball joint. Last edited by lolife99; 02-14-2010 at 01:38 PM. |

Re: Advise on removing/installing lowerer ball joints???
That makes more sense why you would need a ball joint press!
