I scored my disc brakes

I am getting an 81 chevy c 10 for a parts truck. The man said every panel is bent but I really don't care about that. It even runs. Oh yeah.. $100.. and an extra $30 to tow it to the shop.. This is for my 66..

Good for you. I thought I got a good deal 10 years ago when I paid $75 for the front half of a 1975. This way you not only have the front suspension, but the rear end, brakes and all the doodads that come in handy. Enjoy!

I used an 84 donor for my 63 disc conversion. You can even use the brake lines and prop valve all as is from the donor. All I had to do was drill two holes to secure the later prop valve to the little crossmember under the radiator. Every single brake line from the truck went straight into my 63 without modifications at all. I even used 73-87 front and rear brake hoses.

You know it. I did the same thing with my 65..

Way to go. I just finished putting 73-87 ball joints in my factory 63 a arms, and the roll back should be bringing the 78 donor today or tomorrow. I swapped a 350trans for the whole parts truck. Shame though, its in great shape....

so what would be the best year truck to look out for for a swap onto my 61 (as bolt on as possible) i want to start looking for donor truck for brake set up and maybe a different trani

I went to pay for the truck today. I was looking at the engine and he was showing me the electric fuel pumps that were running the engine. One was his and that one was working and the other was left and it stopped working. I looked to see if the manual pump was still there but the hole was cast shut. Then it hit me. 81's didn't come with center bolt valve covers. It seems like there is an 87 year model engine in it. I can tell because of the partial serpinetine system in the truck. More parts I wanted to get at pick and pull.

You will want a '71-'87 C10 pickup or Suburban. I prefer the '73-'87 myself as they have the rubber bushings on the control arm pivots, and slightly larger U bolts on the lower control arm shafts.

I've done a few conversions this way. I even upgraded to aftermarket polished SS lines @ a later date w/o issue.
