Here is my 1990 Suburban

6" lift 33" tires... it runs great! The kids love it. No rust anywhere.

It might be me, but this thing drifts all over the road.. like driving on ice.. it wants to float around corners or over bumps. Any advice?

Maybe a bad steering stabilizer? does it have a raised steering arm?

Reminds me of my 89 GMC Suburban. Loved it and regret ever selling it.

I'd think a new stabilizer or nice dual stabilizer would help the "float". Great looking truck!

Nice bro, the steering could be a few diff things, start by looking at the steering stuff while the wifey turns it back and forth and see if there is anything you can see with the naked eye. I replaced my steering box on mine and it made a big diff, but yours my not need that.

thats right, I forgot to add that you need to check the frame itself where the steering box bolts on. The frame on these trucks cracks easy after running larger than stock tires.

The int is a dark blue and is in really good shape for its age. I'll try to snap some pics.

The bummer about this is I bought it from Oregon and Im having a problem titling it here in MO.. The guy who sold it to me only had if for a month and never got it titled in his name, and neither did the guy he bought it from! I have the title and its just signed over to the guy he bought it from.. so I"m not sure what to do.

I will double check the steering box mount points. Other than that it really runs great.. it looks brand new underneath.

Tony that's an awesome truck. You've got a pair of sweet drivers.

On the Suburban, make sure it's got a dropped pitman arm on it. That's a requirement when you lift one 6". The steering stabilizers dampen bump steer and won't help with drift. Do check where the steering box bolts to the frame as mentioned. They are notorious for cracking the frame there and the steering box working loose.

Some of it may be the tall sidewalls, too. It gives the truck a whole different feel if you haven't had a lifted 4x4 before. Check all of the above ideas first, though. Sharp truck, congrats!

The seller is going to get it titled in his name and send me the new title signed over to me so it should be fine.

Things I like about it... the gas pedal moves very freely, unlike my truck. It idles nice and smooth and accelerates well. It has factory single exhaust with a flowmaster muffler... sounds great, not too loud, no drone or popping.

The int is really clean except for some stains on the carpet but those can be shampoo'd out. I like the barn doors with the lift but I think I might trade the 6" lift for a 4" lift. Hopefully I can still run the 33" tires. I like that is has air bag helpers in back so it does not look like a saggy rear end.

I was going to sell my truck, but if I can afford it I'm going to try and keep it for when my boy turns 16 in 13 years..lol.

Just depends on what you want to do with it. 33"s on a 4" lift will rub if you try hard enough , You should be fine for everyday driving with a 2" lift.

Rancho used to sell a 2 1/2" lift for 73-87's. I installed the kit on a 76 Blazer I had once and had 33x12.50 BFG's on 15x10's, 4" backspacing. I ran that set up hard for many years with no problems.

EDIT: I couldn't help but scroll to the top and look at it again - I couldn't imagine changing that rig. For the size of the rig, the lift and tire combo makes a perfect stance...

I think a 4" might workout better though.. I'm just trying to get a little more street manners out of it because there are some windy hilly roads in these parts, and its mainly a street vehicle anyway.

The height won't make a difference as long as it's set up properly. Does it have a dropped pitman arm? I'm looking at the first picture and it looks like maybe there's some wear around the outer edge of the driver's side front tire, but pics 2 and 3 look normal. Are the front tires worn evenly? It may need ball joints and rod ends and the works up front.

I'm not sure how to tell if it has the dropped pitman arm? It has 160xxx miles.. I bet it does need the works up front. Tires are all worn evenly though.

It looks great like it is. If you are going to make changes, you might consider a tire that isn't so flat and wide. No matter what you do to the front suspension, that style of tire is going to want to "track" with the road.
