Ugh, Cant Take It Anymore!

alright, i have a th350c tranny and the damn lockup converter kicks in at like 26mph, then if i give it any gas it will downshift again....long story short, its a big pain in the ass.

so how do i disconnect the damn thing? isnt there a wire or something??

also, i was thinkin about maybe wiring up a toggle switch to make it work, so it would be in third with the switch off and 4th with it on. would that work?? how would i go about doing it??

Correct me if I'm wrong (I ocassionally am) but TH350 don't have overdrive and therefore don't have a lock up.

You are correct that a TH350 does not have a OD but the later models came with a lock up converter. These are TH350C models.

79BIG10 is correct. There was a lock up converter TH350.

Mine just started doing that a couple of weeks ago, I thought the tranny was going....
Is there a fix to this problem?

well ive heard before that there is a spring in there that activates it, and if you are getting your tranny rebuilt then you can get a stiffer spring to put in there so that it shifts at a higher point than the old worn out spring...this is not an option for me YET though becuase i dont plan on rebuilding my tranny till i get a new motor and that is gonna be a while.

ive also heard that oyu can disconnect the lockup altogether just by cutting one wire, i dont know if that is true though...but my idea was that if there was a wire that controlled it then i could put a switch to it to turn it off and on. i would do this becuase i like being 1:1 when cruising on the highway, but i hate when it comes on and off all the frickin time in town.

and btw, a th350 doesnt have a lockup converter, but a th350c does.

I wouldn't unplug it unless you want to rebuild it pretty soon. I thought I could get away with doing that and it burnt mine up in no time at all lasted maybe a month. This was because the connector that goes into the transmission was broken and I thought I didn't need it "that" bad so I didn't plug it in. I was already broken so there wasn't any sense in plugging it in. That's just been my personal experience with it. TH-350 are also a little stronger than a TH-350(C).

A buddy of mine put a switch in his so he could lock the converter when he wanted to and leave it unlock normally.

thanks for the links man, never thought about lookin to see if anyone already made this stuff...the first link is the only one for a 350 though and its pretty pricey but thats what i want...and will have someday. thanks again. guess for now i will just have to deal with it cuz i dont want to risk blowing my tranny, cant afford that
