Blinker retrofit
Im looking into adding blinkers to a 55 2nd series and am finding an aftermarket switch that clamps to the column, or original style switches in the steering wheel housing that cancel. I'm assuming some of these trucks came factory with blinkers, what all is required to convert to the original style switch and wiring? what have you done for blinkers?

Re: Blinker retrofit
For my 53 chevy Im retrofitting a tilt column out of a 70's van and the original parking and tail lights. Tilt is always a nice upgrade. I hope thats what your asking.

Re: Blinker retrofit
When I had the stock column I ran the clamp on aftermarket type with flasher in the unit. I do not know if the trucks came stock with blinkers. You might do some research and see if auto blinker guts from the same years will fit in the truck column.

Re: Blinker retrofit
I think the turn signals were an option up to 1960. Replacement parts are available for 1955 2ND-57 and up. We sell them. Prior to that they weren't an option at all
Their were two types a cam type manual with the springs in the column and an electrical one that mounted on the column similiar to a Neutral safety switch but actuated the signals Last edited by mbgmike; 03-12-2010 at 07:42 PM. |

Re: Blinker retrofit
Ok thanks thats what I was looking for. What didn't you like about the clamp style? The operation, or just that it looks ugly? The parts look kind of spendy to buy the whole factory style setup. Thanks guys.

Re: Blinker retrofit
I have the bolt on in my 55 2nd and don't like the looks or the fact that it is manual cancel, I forget too often. I tried to ask on many forums including this one to see if anyone had added the factory turn signal switch to the column with no response. The parts are available for about $100. You will need the cup assembly, wedge clamp and the canceling ring. I have not done this yet but will be doing it in the next year or so and will let you all know if there is any modification needed. From this sheet I found on dealer installation it looks like a bolt on and wire up job.
