Big block powered 47 - 54 on an S-10?
I spent an hour searching every way I could think of to find a thread I'm sure I saw here where someone put a big block in an AD truck mounted on an S-10 frame. But I did not find it.
Does anyone remember that thread or know who built a truck on an S-10 with a big block? I'd sure appreciate any help. I want to look carefully at any pictures and read about whatever issues are involved.

My 48 GMC with an original frame has a 396 and fits pretty well. The S-10 is narrower, I wouldn't recommend a big block in one. And I'm a huge fan of big blocks!

Re: Big block powered 47 - 54 on an S-10?
Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm sure I saw a thread about someone putting a big block in an S-10 based '47 to '54. Apparently no one who has read this thread remembers seeing that and who it might have been?
The width does not worry me, I'll must mount the motor a little higher. From a strength standpoint the S-10 frame is made of stout enough stuff it will be okay in my intended use. I think I'll break axles long before anything else bends or breaks.

Don't you have ENOUGH projects??
Actually, Steve, I joined this forum when I was searching something along this line because for our 1 ton panel we have a 402/TH440. Of course, I couldn't find it again either!! |

Re: Big block powered 47 - 54 on an S-10?
Dan I have seven or eight projects mapped out for the future. I just may have to live 100 years to finish them all...
This one is pretty high on my list and likely to be finished early in the process. Plan is to push the 1-ton project out of the shop to do this one, and then return to the 1-ton. But I've got less than a week and then everything is on hold till August or later.

Re: Big block powered 47 - 54 on an S-10?
I thought about a BBC in mine, the only headers I found that might work are the Expensive Lemmons headers. Like mentioned above, the headers and steering will be biggest issue.

A week? Plenty of time...er...some of us had better get over to help you push stuff out of the way. Maybe onto a trailer...towards Michigan...or something like that!

Re: Big block powered 47 - 54 on an S-10?
The most important ones are locked up inside. My trailer actually has one on it, but hopefully its stashed where no one with evil intent will spot it...
Tomorrow morning my radiation starts and I won't be allowed to go home for three to four months so all truck projects (or at least all of mine) are on hold till July maybe August.

Good luck, Steve, hope all goes well.
That's waaaay too long to be stuck thinking about your projects. Lord only knows what they'll morph into - happens with mine all the time! |
