Glad you weren't hurt. Too bad about your rig. Is it repairable?

Re: wrecked the 61 today
I know how you feel on this one.... same exact thing happened to me a few years ago...
most of the sheetmetal needed to be replaced anyway but I wish it would have been under different circumstances.. good luck with the repair

Note to self: Check lug nuts. No Doubt. Sorry to here about your truck. I'll say one thing I don't think if you loose a wheel on a new truck you could put it back on and drive home!

Re: wrecked the 61 today
Or maybe it was overtorqued with an impact? Seems like you would have felt the wobble long before it actually came off it they were just loose.

i was looking at it last night and a few of the studs were just spining with the lugs (i put some on to drive it home after) maybe the studs played a role.

Re: wrecked the 61 today
Sorry this happened. I think that as much as we work on these old trucks, it may be a good idea to have a pre drive check list, kinda like a pre flight check list.

Re: wrecked the 61 today
I hear that check lug nuts note. I just lost my left rear tire doing 65 on the highway pulling a 6k trailer. NOT FUN. After lots of fish tailing I wound up jack-knifed facing east in the west bound lanes no more than 2 inches from the guard rail.
An hour and a half later I was back on the raod and drove the last 1400mi. of the trip incident free!

Re: wrecked the 61 today
Man, I'm sorry about your truck. When I was stationed at Ft hood, Tx., I was driving out past the airfeild about a mile from the barracks when my left rear tire came off. The truck just dropped and I watched the wheel crash into a sweet late 40's early 50's car sitting in the parking lot across the road. Coolest car in the lot and my wheel had to hit it square in the passenger door!
I left him my name, unit, and phone number, and put the wheel back on my truck. I couldn't find any lugnuts, so I had to take some off the other wheels to get back. I pulled into my spot and guess what was laying on the ground? 4 lugnuts! Someone had tried to steal my rims and the lock lug stopped them. I never did find out who it was, and the guy with the coupe never called me about his car. Ever since I have a habit of looking at the lugnuts when I walk towards my cars. |

Sorry to hear about the truck.
Pctahlequah when were you at Hood. i'm here now and it's really bad. We've had a lot of people taking lug nuts off and keying cars.

It was always bad around there. Had buddies get keyed, stereos stolen, wheels stolen, random window carnage....all in the parking lots of the barracks. I was glad to move off post when I got married. Rented a place out in the country near Harker Heights.
