Re: What happened to my trans???

I was just making sure because several of the guys on YellowBullet had me convinced that I could do it and it wouldn't cause any damage. I'm not gonna do it now...I'll probably just swap in a glide in a few months to see if that helps any.

Re: What happened to my trans???

Usually you dont run a glide in a heavy vehicle. The th350/th400 is generally the better choice to get moving off the line. The first gear in a glide is 1.92ish depending on the unit. First gear in a th350 is 2.52 thats a huge difference when it comes to getting a vehicle moving.

Re: What happened to my trans???

Finally pulled the pan tonight. No big chunks, just shavings every where. The whole inside of the pan was covered and the filter too. Hopefully its fixable.

Re: What happened to my trans???

Sorry to hear that bro. Hopefully it's not too bad to fix.

Re: What happened to my trans???

Only metal shavings? Or clutch meterial too? A bad torque converter will put a ton of trash in the pan.

Re: What happened to my trans???

It wouldn't have had the pretty red un burn't fluid would it? if it had clutch material? I killed several convertors in a truck that was pretty mild.

Re: What happened to my trans???

The fluid didnt look bad in the dim underhood light. But, when I started draining it, it looked like a candy apple paint. I would say its about 50/50 trash and metal, tons of it. Ive got a scattershield and a few 4 gear pieces laying around and a parts truck with the pedal assembly. Thinkin about looking for a trans now.

Re: What happened to my trans???

OK sounds like you broke the sprag. The converter will smoke the fluid and turn it black. I just blew my tci converter 2 weeks ago. Fluid black as hell and tons of fine particulate in the pan. Any big chunks is likely a sprag or planetary. Its impossible to tell you 100% for sure without opening the transmission. I will say that since your unit was still functional and not making a ton of noise I would lean toward a broken sprag. The auto will always be faster just gotta put good parts in it. Manual trannies big on a whole other can of worms. Need good flywheel and clutch. Good shifter. If your going to beat on it you gotta make usre the trans is in good shape internally.
