Re: Clear Dizzy!?

Back in the day those clear caps were horrible for cross firing. That looks like a much nicer piece though.

Re: Clear Dizzy!?

Clear caps for points distributors have been around since the 50's, or even the 40's if you want to discuss the ones for F-F-F-F-F, aww, flatheads. the popular look was those plastic caps matched up with spark plug wires that had red-tinted clear sheathing you could watch the spark run through.

Not only were the caps known for cracking, arcing, tracking and crossfire but the "clear red wires" were even more infamous, because you could count on a healthy shock if you grabbed one. The older formulations for plastic just didn't insulate properly.

Now, yes, they are much better and you may even want to dig up the current version of the "clear red" wires for "the look"--but you can't see the spark anymore, just the resistor wire.

I know you could get them for an HEI back in the late 80's. Seems like they were form Mr Gasket. Sold a couple of them during my time at Super Shops.

Like CSGAS said they have been around for a long time for points dizzys.
