how rare are long bed step sides?

I have the chance to pick up a 3/4-ton long bed step side.

How rare are they?

How hard is it to modify the bed to make it the short bed length?

Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

They are pretty rare. I don't know about desirable in the sense of the general market, but I think they are kinda cool. It would be easy to make into a short bed, just take off the fenders then section and weld the box sides to the proper dimensions.

most of those were for municipal kinda use. they are not that rare but its not worth it to shorten those beds

Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

Somewhat rare but extremely undesirable.. I had on I was parting out and had zero interest in the bed. They are just ugly imho, possibly practical in their day just not now.. lol.

Here's the one I parted

Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

I wouldn't call them rare, just more uncommon than they used to be. I've seen far more of them than 2wd Blazers, and most have been 3/4 ton.

As for looks, I love them.

Production is directly related to the region. In Tx we see a number of 2 wheel drive blazers compared to just a very few long steps .

I have had a vision of a long stepper in my head for years . I wish I had the drive and energy to build it since I know where one is and has been sitting for years .

Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

This one is a K20 in addition to being a long step.

It is definitely different.

I will go take a look at it this weekend and see how bad the cab is. The rest is easy to fix.

I would agree, and say that you don't see very many here (domestically) but it was a model chosen for export so you see a lot overseas, particularly in the Middle East.

Re: how rare are long bed step sides?

My Dad had one when I was a kid. It was a 3/4 ton. That was how I developed a liking for 73-87 Chevy pickups.

I saw one in a junkyard over the weekend, and occasionally see a red 3/4 ton around my neighborhood. It was for sale several years ago, and I wanted it, but had no space time or money for another project.

I see 2WD Blazers regularly, but not frequently. A friend just picked one up a few weeks ago.
