Can anyone help me ID my suspension year ?? ??
Ok, I have had this truck since 1988 before that grandpa bought it in 62,I converted it to disk brakes and 5 lug so long ago I forgot what year the suspension came from, I remember it was a rainy day in the late 90s at the pick n pull and I pulled this thing by myself, I am quite sure it was a 67-72 body style, so it must be 71-72 right ?? I need info because my tie rod ends are shot and I need to get new ones here is a pic of the setup
Thanks in advance for any help !! |

I can't identify the year, however, pull one of the tie rod ends, take it to your local auto parts store and they will identify and locate it for you. I believe they are identified by the diameter of the rod and the size of the taper, so it is best to compare the new with the old, to ensure you have the proper replacement.

Its frustrating trying to build anything old around me, the good parts stores are all about 20-40 miles away, all I have here in town are the big chains and for the most part they are only good for ...well nothing actually Last edited by Bugeyev8; 04-08-2010 at 03:33 AM. |

If you send me some dimensions, overall length, find a open end wrench that will slip over the threaded section. The tapers are 1 1/2" per foot in those years. I can look it up in our sizing catalog and give you the Moog #

Re: Can anyone help me ID my suspension year ?? ??
It has to be 71-72. Here's why...
-Disc brakes started in 71 -It has steel screw in control arm bushings which were only used through 72. 73 and newer use rubber press in bushings -The brake hoses mount to the front side of the crossmember. 70 and earlier they mounted to the rear of the crossmember. 73 and newer they did not mount to the crossmember at all, they went through the frame rails in front of the crossmember area.

I would just keep what you got and not swap it out if the bushings are good in the arms. For the swap, you would only need to get the upper and lower control arms from the later model (73-87) OR step up to any of the aftermarket tubular arms out there. like Ride Tech, Porterbuilt, or Suicide Doors.

There is absolutely zero advantage to swapping to newer stuff. You already own this one, you have disc brakes, every single rebuild part is available at any parts store, and parts to lower it are fully available if you chose to do so.
