Water temp help!!!

I have a 72 lb 350 2wd just installed new temp sending unit in left side of head between plugs, my gauge seem to work but after about 15 min of driving it pegs to hot. Just to be safe I installed new water pump, thermostat, upper/lower hoses. still same problem gauge gets pegged to H.
I checked my other gauge set and it does the same thing, I have bypassed factory wires etc.. every possible combo i could think of. still no luck. Truck doesnt overheat, drives fine rest of gauges work ok. Its just an old truck and I'd like to know the water temp is okay. any suggestions BEFORE i install a separate gauge?

Re: Water temp help!!!

It is possible you got a faulty sending unit. It's been known to happen. If the same thing is happening with two different gauges, and you are sure the truck isn't overheating, It might be the unit.

Re: Water temp help!!!

check the wire to see if it is melted and grounded to the motor that will cause the gauge to peg at hot

Re: Water temp help!!!

another thing to think about is air in the system, if a pocket of air gets trapped around the sending unit, the temps will climb quickly. Just to be safe I would get another complete gauge with sending unit and see what the new one reads.

A cheap sunpro from auto zone should work fine.

Re: Water temp help!!!

Thanks fellas! I flushed it out AGAIN and changed the sending unit, its working great now. so it was probably bad sending unit/air pocket or both.
always the simple sH*t that gets it everytime.

Re: Water temp help!!!

I have the same issue even after 3 temp senders, new water pump, thermostat. I have added thread below to tie them together in case others have similar issues. I will update mine once resolved.
