wanting to run on e85

not sure if it belongs here but can change it if so.

im lookin to run on e85 know a little bit from reading around on the web
i have a 70 chevy c10
350 4 bolt main
forged Crank
pro top line aluminum heads 72cc chamber
all retro roller rocker
rubens racing cam 292/300 @50. 540/555 lift
144 b&m blower with flat top pistions
holley dp 850 4150 marine carb- but also have a 750 holley dp
aluminum fuel tank holley electric fuel pump.
compression ratio is about 9:5-1
mallory unilite disb. with MALLORY 685 HYFIRE VI DIGITAL
figured we could get more boost with the e85 and around around 5-7 pounds of boost saftly. i been lookin at a a couple places that sell carb kits, but ones around 80 and others range from 290 and up. lookin to convert the 850 marine because it seems to be better to run with the supercharger going to be a street truck pretty much a daily driver. but mite see some track but nothing to serious just for fun. may run nitrous later but not for awhile.
not sure if there is anything else to be said but can proivde more infomation if needed.

Re: wanting to run on e85

One thing you gotta remember is alcohol burns twice as fast as gasoline. I assume availablility isnt a problem out there? I know around here e85 is real scarce. I would personally stay in the realm of whats possible with 93 octane pump gas. Mileage will be better and you can get fuel anywhere. You need to ensure all fuel lines and the pump are alcohol safe. You also need alcohol safe needles and seats as well as gaskets. You will need much larger jets. You will also need to make sure your fuel system is capable of flowing enough fuel.

Re: wanting to run on e85

That should cover it for the carb. Your likely going to need to purchase extra jets to get it tuned for the boost though. I would call them and ask if they have a kit geared toward blower setups. I havent messed with any e85 setups to be honest with you. The stuff just isnt available around here. Have done alcohol engines but thats a whole different animal. Usually in the 14-1 compression range just straight drag engines. Generally in alcohol engines and im sure it would apply to e85 as well is the amount that ends up in the crankcase because of slipping past the rings. I would imagine in a blower app it would get worse. Just throwing out some things to take into account on a street engine.

Ive seen jets for alcohol in the 140-180 range so yes they are VERY large but e85 is a man made version so it can be mixed with regular pump gas so try regular pump gas first then if it makes noise or needs more timing add some 85 on top. I was planning on doing this also but if I need I will just splash on top of 91 cause thats all I can get from the pumps here. Coop has e85 local. If you search E85 you should find some in the engine section. Good luck.
