cleaning up the engine compartment in my '83

Well, I just picked up this old truck. Its got a 305 in it and it will probably stay there untill my '59 project is finished. I'll probably drop a fresh 350 in it when I have time. I have an edlebrock alum. intake, 600cfm carb, chrome air cleaner and valve covers to shine it up and wake up the engine. I am also replacing the stock exhaust manifolds with some headers. I can use all of this stuff when I drop a 350 in it at a later date.
My question is, how do I get rid of all of the emissions equipment? I didn't want to just start ripping everything out and end up pulling anything that I would want or need. Where I live, there is no smog regulations. I'd like to keep all of the stuff just in case I ever end up needing to smog it. There is a canister attached to the radiator support on the drivers side that a lot of the smog stuff connects too. Can that entire unit be pulled out?

I also have no intention of using the a/c. I want to pull it, but again retain the ability to re connect it at a later date. Essentially, I'd like to get rid of everything that I dont need, just to make it look as clean and un-cluttered as possible.

if it were me I get rid of everything but the canister it does help with the gassy smell... thats the only thing i would keep

So, literally just start pulling all of the wires out and plug any hoses or what not that are left? What stays connected to the canister? What is its purpose? Thanks, Nik

As far as removing your emissions stuff ive done this myself on a 78 chevy so what they have should be somewhat similar.i took off the EGR valve and emissions carb swapped out the carb with a non-emissions carb and used an egr block off plate for the EGR,put small pipe plugs into the exhaust manifolds where the AIR tubes threaded into,removed the cats and used some straight pipes and mufflers i had already as the exhaust system,unhooked the charcoal canister from the engine,re-did some vaccuum lines and other assorted items i cannot recall now as it has been several years since i last did this.if you want in the next couple weeks ill be back in town so if you like you can bring it by my dad's pad and i can help guide you in what needs removed and on top of that we can hang out,grill up some food and just shoot the breeze and show off our respective trucks and talk all things automotive.
