Rear End Noise

I was on my way home in my 66 the other day and I was going up my driveway. I made it about half way up my driveway and the rear end started making a noise. It sounded a lot like a baseball card in a bycicle spoke....just louder. I stopped the truck and backed it up and pulled forward a few times and the noise stopped. Do any of you guys know what it could have been? I am thinking a rock got stuck in something...I have a 1/4 mile gravel driveway. I hope that's what it was anyway. I have not drove the truck since then, nor have I got under it to investigate....haven't had time to do either. Do yall think it was anything to worry about?

Re: Rear End Noise

It could be something as simple as a piece of gravel stuck in a brake drum or u-joint. I had this problem frequently with my Honda CRV when we had to cover 1/2 mile of crushed rock to reach the highway. Took it to the dealer, they removed gravel from the rear brakes and sent us on our way several times.

If the noise was a failed u-joint the noise would just keep getting worse. If it makes a horrible clunking noise when you turn left or right it could be broken spider gears.

Re: Rear End Noise

Markeb01...Whenever I backed up and went forward a few times, I even mash it to the floor a time or two in my driveway to see if maybe the noise would start back. It never did. I'm hoping it was gravel. I guess I will find out the next time I drive it. Thanks.
