Cab/door seals
I'm wanting to tighten up the interior on my 74 this summer & start using the a/c again. Currently, all the door & glass seals are in poor shape.
I'm wanting a tight, rattle free, & no wind noise ride (if that's even possible). Those of you that have upgraded this stuff, where did you source your parts? Suggestions or tips?

I bought a set of door felt kit from www.classicparts.com for $65 and door rubber seals for $29. Better price than LMC. The felt kit for yours is a few dollars cheaper.

I've been wanting new seals too, I hate my noisy vent windows, idk if that's even possible to make quiet, but they drive me crazy.

Looks like a great price. They are a vendor here, so I would hope the quality is good. Brother's had a sale on when I bought mine, but those pieces were more than that, on sale. I think I may have a set of vent glasses that are in pretty good shape, I think they are a PITA to reseal. If you are going to do them, I would be happy to help knock it out. I will check my junk closet at Pete's next time I am over there to see if those vent windows are still there. Worst case, I know the ones I just pulled from my truck are in there, you can rebuild them before you pull the doors on your truck apart. edit: Ken beat me to it. I type too slow.

i just orded my rubber seals from www.classicparts.com today.
they where cheaper than the dealer. Ive been ordering from www.classicparts.com for a while now. Great service, polite people too. |

I got all my weatherstrips sitting here, got them from GM, they're still available. Nothing fits like the stuff made to go on your truck. I had bought some window run channels from LMC, along with the inner/outer belt mouldings, but they are junk compared to the OE stuff. I mean they'd work and work well if it was all you had to put in, but the GM weatherstrips.... make it like new again. If you need part numbers or something, just let me know.

"Tight" and "rattle free" are certainly possible, but I'm not sure about "no wind noise".
These trucks, even the best, struggled with wind noise even when new. It's inherent in the wing vent and the configuration of the A pillar/cab/door interface. K

You are definitely welcome to the nicest vent glasses I have. The weatherstrips in the ones from my '79 are whooped, but I think I have better ones. If you want the GM stuff, let me know. I can order it here at work. The aftermarket stuff worked well enough for me, but I don't drive my truck everyday, either. Made a huge improvement, though.

FWIW, I ordered the entire seal kit for my '75 Burb from www.americanclassicseals.com. There price shipped was over $100 less than anyone else. And it all looks like the stuff I used on me old '87 R10.

Scot- When you do this project, be sure to have some quality sound deadener on hand too. Install it inside the doors and on the back of the door panels. That will take a LOT of road noise out too.

^^^Good idea, wish I had done that on my old '87. I went through all the hassle of replacing the door pins, strikers and all the rubber (even the d@mn 2 piece vent window rubber) & wipes, but didn't even think of doing that.

I bought door seals, windows seals/felt channels from classicparts. They fit perfect. Door is a little harder to shut at first, after a few days of being closed, they shut fine and tight.

SCOTI, When you check on the GM stuff, see who makes it. When I checked at the local dealer for mine they told me it was actually made by the same folks that make it for everybody else, and suggested that I buy it elsewhere to save time and $.
Maybe it was just the parts guy's opinion, I dunno. This is what they told me. (ie. don't shoot the messenger.)

I was looking over the parts guy's shoulder looking up some of this, and there isn't a manufacturer specified. I would guess maybe there might be some speculation, though.

IIRC, "Precision" was the company that made/had most of the weatherstripping. What the parts guy mentioned, and I agreed, with all that is subbed out on new car production, why would they hang on to 25+ year old tooling and production of weatherstrip? Someone may get lucky and get a Genuine GM set...
To the OP, I actually got mine from JC Whitney. Through sales and coupons, it was a bit cheaper and in stock. The wing windows need some more tweaking, but the rest of it fit well.
