Need a HEI Dist
I need a Hei Dist to put in my truck. I'm looking at accel, MSD street fire, cardone from the auto parts. or ebay. It's going in a stock motor, don't need anything fancy. I just want to install a new Dist & keep this one as a backup. Which choice would be the best? Thanks!

Skip White's website or you can search for their stuff on Ebay.

Re: Need a HEI Dist
I actually bought a E fan from him. I looked at that Dist & looked for some opinions on it. some were good & some were bad. I'm also looking at the summit/jegs. I don't know 50 is awfull cheap. It's tempting though! I just don't want junk. Is this what you're running? Anyone else running this Dist? I would like to hear more suggestion before I make my decision. Thanks!

Re: Need a HEI Dist
if you do some research on this board about the MSD i know there were quite a few people who had issues with their HEI coil packs and ignition systems a few years ago. I dont recall the issues or the final outcomes as i never had one but it may be worth looking into the archives for that here.
Personally Ive had an Accel ignition system years ago in one of my old pontiacs and I wasnt all that impressed as it was a street car and not a track car

Re: Need a HEI Dist
I bought the skip white one. Looks just as good as any other new distributor I've ever seen. Everythings nice and tight. Imo if ya just gotta have MSD, buy skip whites dizzy n put an MSD sticker on it. I like it!

Re: Need a HEI Dist
I bought this one on eBay. Truck hits on all 8 cylinders. took about 20 minutes start to finish. still don't have it timed right, but she can leave some rubber on the pavement. make sure you buy a new gasket for the base of the distributor

Re: Need a HEI Dist
Difficult to beat a new HEI for less than $60.00.

Re: Need a HEI Dist
From what I can tell, the msd street fire and the skip white are exactly the same distributor, except I think msd puts a different gear on theirs and charges three times as much for it. I bought the street fire thinking it would be better than the typical china distributor, but it wasn't any better than the worn out stock one I already had.

Re: Need a HEI Dist
Ditto on the MSD Streetfire. I bought Skip White dist and thought there was a problem with it, then bought a new Streetfire thinking it would be better than the China made Skip White but i was appalled to find it is the exact same unit except for the gear, coil and module. BTW the problem wasn't with the distributor and I've been running the Skippy unit and it works fine. I will give you a good deal on a new MSD Streetfire though...
