That and like the old saying - If it's got tires or tits you'll have trouble with it.

I think I've only named two trucks, if the name comes to you rather than looking for it you know you've got the right one.

There is one around here called "care bear" and another guy thought he could beat "care bear" in a drag, so he named his truck "care bear killer" but.. it turned out he was wrong!

Im still waiting for a name to come to me for my 76 C-10. But my 91 GMC was named ol' blue submarine cause I sunk it when I was 16(got it running agian, then totaled it). My 86 K-20 was named ol' rusty cause it was full of rust when I brought it.

Re: Uh just curious

We began naming our cars about 20 years ago with my last daily driver, a 1946 Ford named Christine because she was possessed. She required constant attention, demanded the most expensive parts, and the few times anyone else was allowed behind the wheel, she pitched a fit and quit running or broke something major requiring my attention to get her back home. If I ever worked on another car in the same garage, she would break something within the next 3 days to teach me a lesson.

My current DD was a one family truck that had been named Old Yeller years prior, for obvious reasons.

After her first rebuild the name didn’t fit, so she was re-christened Diane or Diana, depending on what mood we're in – since she thinks she’s a princess and has rarely been asked to do anything expected of a truck. She's very forgiving, friendly to everyone, and likes to show off. Her only bad habit is if I don't drive her for more than 3 days, she won't start without a great deal of attention.

Re: Uh just curious

I call my truck "ole girl" or "old red". My truck has to be a girl. She's always been there for me, never left me stranded no matter how bad she was feelin. But at times she can annoy the heck out of me. Lol, just like most of the women I know. not a fraid to have fun and also not a fraid to let you know when shes pissed! Lol

My car has recently become to be known as the "soap bubble" because my good friend ets_c10 Ellen named it because its white and roundish. and also I think she is great at coming up with names for rigs. hopefully she chimes in!

Re: Uh just curious

I do believe that the womans name for any vehicle started from one of the WWs, I don't remember which one. But the pilots and crew thought it would be good luck to name their plain after a woman. After the war when they got home and started buying cars they kept with their tradition of naming, and so it stuck.

But someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Uh just curious

Never did much naming, out of 50+ cars/truck only a few stuck with names.
My 2nd car was a 66 Barracuda that was a project car and sorta rough.
I jokingly said it was the "Swap Rat" as to how fast it was going to be.
(think Don Garlits) the neighbor never let me forget that name.
It actually had it spray painted on the the back panel, still on there when I found it in a junkyard

Then there was the "Bond mobile" a 69 Caprice 396 2bbl powered boat that was not real fast but would smoke the rear tire (one) like no tomorrow
friends dubbed it bond mobile due to the instant smoke potential.

my 70 C10 had wood side trim that had my stepdaughter calling it "woody"

I have usually just added "the" in front of whatever it is. As in "the 49"

I have heard the same thing -- the planes were often named for the pilot's wife or girlfriend. But it goes back even further. I believe it was the revolutionary war when men named their muskets after the women in their lives.

Re: Uh just curious

My Dad calls the burb the "Ole girl", and he still refers to her "How is my ole girl doin these days"...

Growing up, my friends called the burb "The beast" and still do when they ask me "Do you still have the beast"? Back then, she was mean and nasty to the uninitiated.

Other than my friends calling her the Beast in a good way, thinking back I don't think she has ever had an unkind name or word applied to her. I think that's why she has been so darn reliable.

I just call her my baby.

Re: Uh just curious

My Sierra is named Lili- after the hurricane that delayed the deal for a couple of days because the bank wasn't able to operate without electricity!

My brother and I traded a Ford F-150 back and forth for years, whenever one of us needed a vehicle the Ford would come to live at the house where it was needed.
That old Ford usually sat more than it was driven, and often refused to run without a lot of TLC. It would quit on us any old time! My wife and kids named it Lazarus, because it kept coming back from the dead.
