Ignition that fits
My k10 burb had an HEI on it when I bought it. It just doesn't fit, so I'm going to pull it out and put a stock single point ignition in. I'm sure I'll be happy with it, but I'm looking for suggestions for a reliable electronic system that will fit back against the firewall. I've used a Unilite before, I've heard good things about Pertronix, anything else? I'm not a big fan of the high dollar stuff for street use. IMO, unless you are into hardcore drag racing or Bonneville, those systems that include "DANGER! HIGH VOLTAGE!" stickers are marketing ploys for suckers who ought to be spending their hard-earned cash on something else.

Re: Ignition that fits
I went with the Pertonix conversion kit to the OEM Delco point distributor, and I have been very pleased with it so far. I highly recommend going that route, plus it keeps the stock look in the engine compartment.

Re: Ignition that fits
I used a pertonix and their ignitor coil which looks stock on my 66. I also used a pertronix on the 52 Chriscraft 6 cylinder. Happy with both and they were under a $100 each (+ coil for the truck).

Re: Ignition that fits
Pertronix it is , then.
Yesterday I finally put a timing light on my truck to see just how fouled up it was. It was set at O degress initial, 30 degrees with the vacuum plugged in. The adjustable vacuum can had obviously never been adjusted. So I set initial at 6--which was sort of difficult because the Accel killer koil with "High Kilovolt Rating" rubs against the firewall--and scrounged up a stock can I had laying around. The wires have "Ultimate Thermal Protection" but were tightly zip tied together, so I cut the ties and installed seperators. Should get me through until I find a good stock Delco distributor I know must be around here. |

Re: Ignition that fits
petronix has an "ignitor II" now that puts out more spark power than the original ignitor system. wish i'd know about it last year when i bought the kit for my 72 burb. check out a jcwhitney or lmc truck catalog. there is a hi-po coil for the ignitor II sold seperately. it is still a stealth install that looks completely stock like the original ignitor!!

Re: Ignition that fits
I think most of the resto shop vendors carry the kit and coil.
I was in a hurry for mine, and bought it at a local chrome shop. A lot of stores carry Pertronix, more than you would have guessed. I went onto their website, and it allows you to put you zip code in and it will locate all the nearest Pertronix dealers. That was the only way I would have found mine in such a rush.
