'55 1st series... Should I buy it or just wait.
I'm thinking about buying this, it is a '55 1st series on a 1984 s10 extended cab frame. It has a v6, 700r4 trans. The body needs work. It needs cab corners, floor pans needs some love too. But it does run and drive and has a clean title, so that's a plus. The old timer that has the truck said that 2200.00 will take it. I just want some input on this project. The truck does come with the '55 frame, '53 grille, and a few other good parts.

If you're asking if it's a good deal, I would say yes. If you think it's a good deal and it's what you want and your wife likes it and you can afford it and you have room for it and....well you get the idea

The price sounds more than fair for a running, driving AD truck that already has the S-10 swap done and has a clear title.
That looks like a truck that you can drive for a while before you start doing anything to it if case needs be. Even use it as a real truck if needed to haul stuff back from Lowes or Home Depot or what ever. Almost every AD truck cab you will see needs cab corners. A lot of them need floor board work especially on the drivers side where guys climbed in with wet and muddy shoes and boots for the past sixty years. I'd worry more about the workmanship that was done in the frame swap. As compared to some of the better ones in threads here, was it done right? If you want it the only two reasons for not buying it are either it isn't in the budget right now or the work putting it together isn't up to par. If it runs and drives you can actually drive it enough so that the neighbors know that it is a running driving and licensed vehicle and not a clunker sitting in the yard. That's a big plus right there. Then you can work on it a bit at a time until it's time to do the big rebuild if you want to do that. |

It was built by a 71 year ol man, not that is a bad thing but it did need to be redone. I think anyways. He didn't have a welder so everything is bolted to something. Plus the truck is on a extended cab frame, so the bed is about 6" away from the cab. You would have to cut the frame or extend the bed. I think that I am just going to wait till I find "THE TRUCK FOR ME" as my wife would say.
