305 v-6?
Just sold my 55 210 and now am a truck guy. Just picked up a 1960 GMC short bed stepside, love the look of this little truck. It's got a 305 v6, never heard of such a thing. Runs rough, but its been sitting awhile and i am going to rebuild the carb, and that should smooth it out. It's going to be relieved by a SBC next spring, but i'm going to drive it with the 6 until then. What's the history of these wierd v6s, never knew GMC had such a motor.

I've got a '63 with one in it. Even have the plaid valve covers that not many people seem to run across. It's a cool engine. I kept it because it is so cool looking and because it's different. Most people look at it and start counting the valve cover humps, then they look at the 60 degree V and can't ever seem to find the spark plugs without following the wires.

Welcome to the forum from another 1960 GMC shortbed stepside owner. Looks like a nice straight example to start with. You owe it to yourself to go ahead and read about the history of the V6 before you decide to dump it. As noted above the Jolly GMC site is library of all things GMC V6:
http://www.6066gmcguy.org/gmcv6a.htm It truly is a marvel of engineering. It's also very heavy and not so good on gas mileage, but was definitely built to last and is very unique. I might have kept my 305, but at the time it was more than twice as expensive to rebuild, compared to buying a complete brand new 350, and I was building the truck to be a long distance daily commute vehicle.
