found a old chevy cant identify the year

Alright first off im a mopar and blazer guy I have a 69 blazer im working on atm as well, I found a old chevy C-10 stepside it is in the years 60-66 it has a single headlight on each side in the grill, and has rectangular blinkers one on each side in the hood. It also has a inline 6 cylinder,it is a automatic it has a hurst shifter. Im looking for a vehicle to completely frame up restore, and this one may be on the list to do. What year is this vehicle and is it worth restoring and selling for a profit?

Re: found a old chevy cant identify the year

That describes all of these trucks from 60-66. The 60-61's had a pig nose hood with two large humps over the headlights, the 60-63 trucks have a wrap around windshield with a knee-knocker dash, and the 64-66 trucks have a more traditional windshield and dash set up. Other than that info, you need to start looking at molding and badges and optional equipment to determine the specific year.

Re: found a old chevy cant identify the year

That's right as the grill, amber lenses in the hood and fender emblems are 63. If you look underneath at the front suspension it should be tables and coils. On the drivers side door post the vin plate should start with 3C14........spotlight, day night rearview mirror, accessories, cool. If you get a chance take a close up picture of the spotlight mounting bracket, the interior, and under the hood. Click on my avatar, mines a 63.

Re: found a old chevy cant identify the year

Look around at the prices for finished trucks, not that great. There's a lot of work to go into this truck. As a restoration you'd loose your shirt. As a daily driver it would be OK. It's really how much you value your ambition. There's a few parts you could sell off the truck. Strip it, advertise it. To me this "could" be a nice project truck for someone but not a truck your going to make money off, unless you have the right connections for parts and a buyer who see's what you do in it.

Re: found a old chevy cant identify the year

yea its a nice looking truck but right now it seems any frame up restoration is going to cost more than the vehicle will sell.

Re: found a old chevy cant identify the year

The spotlight brackets are worth some coin. If it has the interior rectangular bracket as well I'd buy the truck just for them.

Re: found a old chevy cant identify the year

You should really take a good look at the truck to help you decide what you want to do. List all the stuff that would have to be replaced or repaired, then price it out. Unless you can get it cheap, I can't see you making alot of money off of it.

Any other trucks from 60-66 around for parts? This could help you if you take on the project.

Speaking of spot lights Aero, I took the dummies off mine and now even more upset about the holes that they left, being they were in the wrong panel all together.

If you just want to get the holes filled without further damage to the paint, you can always patch them from underneath with JB Weld as explained at the following link:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=369713

If I remember correctly they were screwed on top of the fender extensions. I'm surprised how many people install dummys that way, I've even seen some screwed to the hood. I guess they just weren't around when people had real spotlights, and don't realize the operating handle was suppose to come out somewhere inside the vehicle. Even if a dummy doesn't have an operating handle, it should be mounted to look like it could.

Re: found a old chevy cant identify the year

I agree with Aerotruk on the value versus investment issue. Most guys that put a lot of labor and money in these trucks, have a passion for this series. Many including myself would never get the monetary investment back out should they decide to sell. The 60-66 series trucks just don't have the market demand of something like a 55-57 Chevy convertible. It would be easy to spend $20k on one and have it end up worth half that amount.

I.M.H.O....get it! you have nothing to lose.and if you do CAREFULLY remove that spot lite and KEEP EVERYTHING! those thing are rare,as far as "dummy" spots are concerned, if your going to punch holes in your truck, put on the real deal, if your going to have them they might as well work...I.M.H.O.
