I'm glad you posted this pic.....I have an 86 3/4 ton that was at one time that color. It was my Dad's truck that was left to me after he past away in April. Someone before he got it painted it white with a spray can and paint brush. My Dad and myself were/are both firefighters and I liked the orginal red but haven't been able to see one in that red before now. Other then the headlights and mine is a long bed they look pretty close to being twins and mine has a 4 speed w/granny. I have a long way to go to restore it but I will get there some day. Here's a pic of mine.

Hey, I paid attention to the truck! You weren't handy so I couldn't get in, but other than the color (I'm a fridge white guy) I love it. I was particluary enjoying the dings in the wheel houses in the bed, shows that even though it's pretty it's a real truck!

And were there a lot of nice 66-69 impala types or what/ 69 Caprice with hideaways right in front of a 69 SS427! 66,67, 68 Biscayne 2-door posts including one that is now a 427 car!

We GM'ers sure do own some of the finest!

Just noticed it's been a full year since I finished my truck....


... and it's still "done"!



So far so good, still shooting for 200,000 (up to 188,000 currently).

I also have learned I will have a Volt captured test fleet vehicle from November through March, so I might be able to keep Lil Red from seeing snow this winter.

Hey Keith, When did they first start putting computers in these trucks. I always thought it was in 87 but ive heard it was earlier than that.

Keith is the source for first computer installed question, and I thought that it was 87, but (technically) the cruise control has a circuit board under the dash which I think could be called a "computerized" cruise control module.

I know my 84 had one in it. Not sure about the first year, but it was along with the ESC.

Yes - first year for TBI was '87 (in full size trucks); there were computer controlled carburetors prior to that (perhaps '84, as JohnC mentions).

On an unrelated note:

I was (finally) able to get out and do some testing with the Chevelle in the good fall air this weekend.

Resulted in a new personal best: 9.85 @ 136.87 mph. Backed it up with a 9.88.

This could be attributed to the addition of Q16 race fuel, jetted up and re-set the timing. Baseline for the day was 10.07.
