Suburban "Cheyane super"

Hey all, going to look at this thing soon and need some inspection advice. It's a 73 3/4 ton 4x and looks to be in good shape and original but the lady has no idea about engine trans ect. she said it runs but she only rode in it and it was her late husbands truck and has had little use for about 5 years after his passing, just her daughter would drive it once a week to run errands and stuff.

So where is the rust going to be?

350 and TH350 or???

T case?

Cheyane super mean anything like A/C and nicer trim?

I would rather get an 86-91 but no smog is VERRRRY appealing. Thanks.

The Cheyenne Super was the good trim level back then, like Silverado is to the late 80's trucks. If it's a 3/4 ton, I'd think it would have a 400 or 454 and a 400 transmission. I don't know exacts on the 70's models though so I'm sort of guessing.

Might get lucky and it has the optional 454. I'd rather be lucky than good any day.
Looks like 3.73 gears were 'standard' on the 3/4 ton, but others were available.

Wow! I searched my brains out and didnt even come close to finding what you guys posted here, thanks. I doubt it's a 454 and a 4x4 that would be like winning the old truck lottery. Where is this thing going to rust? around the trim/top of fenders and....I need some tips on what to look for dont want to deal with rust.

It is a K20....no big blocks offered in subs unless you got the 2wd version.
Check out the last page of the manual posted. Only one engine offered. Only one gear ratio. Transmission could be changed though.

Dip me in honey and call me a sticky bun. I missed the part where he said 4x4, I was looking at the C20, not K20. blakeduren is of course correct.

And where to look for rust. Mostly usual places, check the rockers real good, floor pans, upper door jamb close to the roof, wheel opening area in the quarters, bottoms of the fenders etc. Is useful to take a magnet with you when looking at an older vehicle. Sometimes it will 'show' you things hidden by paint.

A magnet? I am thinking if there is bondo it wont want to stick? So the more I research the more interested I am in this thing, but as it goes the seller is playing hard to get. I don't want to blow up her phone because she seems pretty darn old but man, I need to look at this thing don't want to miss an opportunity.

Correct, a magnet will not stick in areas that have been over filled/repaired. It at least makes you look an area over a lot harder, last thing you want is to find a repair that has been pop riveted in to place and filled over or something. Sometimes it just means an area was worked fairly hard, but properly.
