fall carlisle treasure

good fall carlisle show yesterday - found some stuff I've been looking for for some time now. The carbs are old vette or 56-57 chev WCFBs, the caps are 59 imp poverty caps. (I already had the offy dual quad manifold from a previous scrounging trip) The impala caps still had the brown celophane paper separating them - never installed. some were pretty pitted, but most very nice -they all cleaned up well. Best news was no dings. carbs will take some work, and are pretty close on the mfg dates. but still need to decipher a little more... got all for a pretty good price too. Good show this fall. Still soaking my feet after walking for about 10 hrs, then driving 7, but worth it. I found 2 sets of old vented vette dual quad air cleaners, one set trashed, the other perfect - couldn't afford either of them, so it didn't matter. Maybe on a future trip. Heading west soon, so will stalk the pomona swap meet to see if i can find 'em....

Cool finds. I lived in the Garden Grove/Huntington Beach Ca. area for a couple years right out of high school, and used to love both the Pamona and Long Beach swap meets. Both were always worth the day spent.

Those caps look gorgeous. Those and the 63's are my favorites, and both are hard to find in decent condition. They look fantastic on your truck. So are the dual quads going on your truck?

Re: fall carlisle treasure

markeb01, that's the plan - but it's a long term one. You may recall some previous discussions wh had about the vette valve covers too (and pcv, etc). Have all the bits and pieces but need the time to do it. Still gotta conjure some linkage, etc. Plan is rebuild the motor, swap on the offy and wcfbs and old vette cast valve covers (like yours) and then, hopefully, find the vented tin can vette air cleaners and pop em on. Something like that. May swap the stuff on before the rebuild just to get it all dialed in - then rebuild after another move (I move way too often, not convenient for a project truck!)

In the middle of a move to CA in the next few months, so all projects on hold, unfortunately. When I get to Cali, gonna be somewhat of a "vagrant" for several months, then moving in to new place in mid-April probably. First project out of the chocks will likely be a T5 swap. That way I can enjoy driving it smoothly until I stick the old wacky carbs on it and completely screw up its driveability. Might be tough getting where I'm going, but it'll be cool to pop the hood if I make it....

Fryer (I bought a 92 4x4 at garden grove chevy once!), yes, long beach and pomona are great swap meets - i'm partial to pomona since it's just so huge - but the stuff there is very old and very hot rod, so I like it. Another good, but much smaller get together that I try to never miss when on the west coast, is the bakersfield march meet and oct hot rod reunion (both at famoso) - good stuff.
