I would like to convert my 3 on the tree to an automatic shifter. I would like to keep my column and would rather not bore a hole through the floor and put a lokar in it. So is it possible? or do I start cutting.

I've seen a guy rig a 3OTT column to work w/some automatic column linkage. He used the standard auto-column rod set-up that goes down to the trans detent lever & connected it to the rev/1st level from the column shifter (I believe it was the rev/1st lever but imagine it would be whichever one was easiest to connect the rod to).

I'm not sure how well it worked for him.....

Delmo- That is AWESOME man what a GREAT idea. What did you end up doing about the E-brake though?

It's an auto dude, who needs an ebrake? LOL Besides it sits on the frame.
I ordered a cable from Summit ( 4 foot I think) and a bracket kit for the trans. Used a factory hole in the lever and in the column bracket. Just needed to use a little angle bracket for the cable housing. Easypeezy.

Couldn't you use the Morse Cable concept, but simply mount it such that it has a knob instead of using the e-brake handle?

Should work, don't ya think?

I did this with my radical 60 build, 2004r, the only major issue that I want to solve is a reverse/park lock out, right now you have to be real careful with an up shift, or about accidentally knocking it out of park when it is parked.

Ya I've converted a 3OTT using a cable as well. Just a simple bracket mounted to the firewall to hold the cable housing and connected to the first gear lever.

Getting excited with all of these ideas. Thanks a ton for the input fellas. I am thinking that maybe some sort of bracket could be attached to the column as a park lock out- something that will move when the shift lever is pulled forward. I have to get into the column a little to see how it all works and maybe come up with something.
