Re: tag questions
if you are selling the pair, with a title , it is probably illegal...
might even be a federal crime to knowingly tamper with vehicle v*n plates. we'll see what others say. the data plate on the kick panel is no big deal, it is only a data tag

Re: tag questions
As far as I know selling a VIN tag and a title would get you in some trouble since it is not legal.. Now if it was still attached to the cab, and you sold it as a cab with a title, that would be a different story.

Re: tag questions
The vin tag would have no value without the title to the same truck. Like others have said, I'm 99% sure it's illegal to sell both. But, there are tons of titles for sale on the hamb. They advertise them as Historical Documents.

It's illegal in the State of North Carolina.

Re: tag questions
Pretty sure it's a no-no almost everywhere.
But then again, where's the line? If you cut out the A piller you haven't tampered with the tag? it maybe why some tags are located on the roof portion of the jamb,in canada they're on the hinge piller, again, making it visible yet difficult to tamper with. T

Re: tag questions
I would check with your state to make sure.

Re: tag questions
Laws vary from state to state but I agree with the previous comment that removing the Vin tag fromt he vehicle is a federal offense.
5 years ago when I bought my '69 Camaro I researched this. There are people that are buying '69 Camaro cowls just for the cowl tag / vin tag - along with the title. They then build a "new" Camaro using a dynacorn body. Then the car is titled as an original '69 Camaro. I am not sure if it is still legal, there was quite an uproar from those of us that had originals. If enough cars are built it really effects the value of the originals. Looks like it is still a subject of controversy http://camaroforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29633 |

Re: tag questions
remember federal prison is no parole, I wouldn't want to even do a week with those guys, much less 3-5 or whatever the punishment is.

Re: tag questions
Thanks for all the replies, Prison is something I don't want to expierence, over a tag. hers the deal I sold my original cab cause it was really rusty. Someguy wanted just the roof so he bought it for 100 bucks I removed the tags. It has registration papers. I bought another cab with no papers but it had tags. Im using my original papers and tags.

Re: tag questions
I would just toss the vintag, the only reason someone would want it would be to re register a truck they have that does not have tags, then if anything goes wrong, it might be traced back to you.

Re: tag questions
no titles on 74 or older vehicles in alabama, only bill of sale and the vehicle is only checked to insure the bill of sale matches the vin number and a one time fee of $16.00 gets you a tag that is good for the life of the vehicle

Re: tag questions
I'm with jonz - I'd toss the thing in the trash. Having (almost) been on the receiving end of some rat bastage that was trying to sell me a truck with a bad title/vin combo (turns out the dude on the title had been dead for years, even though he WAS actually a previous owner... just not the current one!) I'd steer clear. I know how you feel - it's a shame it can't be used, but the truck that vin was born with is long gone - so any use of it would probably be for less than forthright purposes by whomever bought it from you. I'm just sayin. Good of you to ask, by the way.
