Engine Oil

What kind of engine oil are some of you guys using. Looking to see what you inline 6er's are using. About to do an oil change. Oil pressure is low, but have not changed the oil in a while. Just curious. Thanks in advance.

Re: Engine Oil

Temperature and use should determine the viscosity. I'm using 10-30 going into winter here in Idaho.
How low is your pressure?
Normal for my 230 I-6 is about 40-50 lbs.
I think I checked the manual awhile back and that was accepted range.
Any body have a service manual handy??

Re: Engine Oil

A lot of motor oils don't have the wear additives for a flat tappet cam anymore.

Mobil 1 says their 15w-50 has enough for older motors. After a good break-in period with dinosaur oil and ZDDP additive I run the Mobil 1.

Re: Engine Oil

I ran straight 40 in my 65 with an I6. My engine had real low pressure and low compression. Im sure it was just wore out.

Re: Engine Oil

I live down south and use 30w or 15w40 diesel oil in my old truck and tractor engines.

Re: Engine Oil

I just use Pennzoil 10W30 in everything i own except my mowers i use HD30 in them.
I add a little about 8oz per oil change of STP oil treatment with everything and use good quality WIX filters.

Every month a add a bottle of fuel injector/carb cleaner to my gas tank and then every 12 months i use seafoam.
