How did they lower my rear?
My truck is a 78 Big 10 shorty. My Uncle who owned it before me had a shop lower it and doesn't know how they did. I am not that familiar with leafs, if it was a 63-66 I wouldn't need to ask, but I need some schooling on this. It is supposed to be a 4" drop.

Re: How did they lower my rear?
Is the front hanger reversed? You'll know because it will have bolts instead of rivets.
The leafs are below the axel. Stock, they are above the axel. Last edited by gchemist; 12-05-2010 at 09:24 PM. |

Re: How did they lower my rear?
It's had a flip kit installed.
The rearend is now on top of the leaf springs. Probably a 5" or 6" rear drop. Looks fine to me,... but I'm not sure about the red rubber snubber back by the rear shackle.

Re: How did they lower my rear?
would the snubbers take some of the arch out of leafs giving it less drop?

Re: How did they lower my rear?
it may be, they call it a "heavy half ton". its GVW is about 6200. How many leafs does a regular 1/2t have?

Re: How did they lower my rear?
What size tires?
That is more than 4" in the rear. I'm guessing somewhere in the 5"-7" range Measure from the middle of the wheels to the top of the wheel opening front and rear. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: How did they lower my rear?
Measure the leaf pack thickness at the axle, add 3" (axle tube diameter), and there is roughly your drop. You have bout a 6" drop due to the HD leafs in your truck

Re: How did they lower my rear?
I wouldn`t go any lower then that, looks good as it is.I had a flip kit and a 2 inch bell tech hanger drop in the front and a shackle kit in the rear and it was way to low.I sold the bell tech kit and just did a flip kit and it sits level like yours and lowered. So unless you want to spend money you can do a air ride kit but thats all in your budget...
thanks pat
