Yeah, you got me. It has been a long time since anything has been done to the old truck. I'll be making a come back this year though.

The thing is is that my cab is next door in Alan's garage and it's his girls that are doodling on it. I guess it's become a permanent fixture in his shop.

It's all good, I'll get back to it pretty soon and finally get this thing knocked out. I was talking to Alan over the weekend about the only real body work I have to do is on the cab and that's it. The bed and front end is new and just needs to be bolted together pretty much. Easier said than done I know, but it should help some when it comes time to assemble the truck.

On a serious note, I got an email from Donna over a www.ricksupholstery.com that my buddy bucket seat covers were done and had shipped out and according to the tracking info I should have them tomorrow.

I'm painting my truck medium olive with a white top and have been planning on a black interior for a while, but I've always wanted something a little more custom, but wasn't sure what I wanted until now. These houndstooth covers should spice up the interior a little bit.

I guess it's time for an update. The weather here has been pretty decent for the last couple of weeks so I've been able to get a little shop time in.


Alan caught me in action finally working.





Finally got the cab corner and rocker buttoned up.







If you remember I had some issues with the rocker and ending up splitting it to make it wider so it would line up with the door. We ended trying 2 different rockers on the driver's side and they both fit the same. So we cut and modified one to make it fit like it should. We're still not sure what the problem was, but everything fits and lines up as it should now.

Next I tackled the door hoop issue. Ended up taking out about a 1/8" of metal.




Ended up with a pretty good conture when it was done.




Since I relocated my fuel tank to the rear of the frame I decided to seal up the hole in the floor of the cab for the fuel line.

After some mad fab skills. Alan thought I was trying to make my own money when I made this plug.



Sealed up.



Of course there was tons of grinding during all of this. The driver's side is about 95% buttoned up now, so things are starting to come together at a pretty good pace now.


I'm still acquiring parts when I find good deals and when the budget allows. I picked up a pair of '72 only extreme bend hooks, from another member, a little while back. They're in great shape and have already been powdercoated.

One of the upgrades I wanted to make on my truck was to swap over to a cable style throttle cable and replace the solid throttle rod setup that originally came on my '69. Below is a list of the parts that I used to make the swap.

A '72 throttle cable bracket off the parts board

I mounted the new pedal and marked where the cable needed to come through the firewall and drilled a hole.





After mounting the cable to the pedal this is what I ended up with. Looks good right?





Well, the more I looked at it the more I didn't like the idea of trusting a 40 yr old plastic bushing on the throttle setup, even though they came this way from the factory originally.





So I ended up cutting the eye off the gas pedal and rotated it so I could use the clevis style mount that comes on the Lokar cable.





After some cutting, welding, sandblasting and primer this is what I ended up with.





I mounted it after the this was done, but forgot to take any more pictures before I removed it again, sorry. But trust me it works.

What should've been a simple hole to drill turned into a 1.5 hour project. Oh well, at least with the new setup I have a good piece of mind in my throttle setup. Plus, this is one less thing on the to-do list now.





On another note, I received some more parts to add to my stash.






Some replacement foams for my buddy buckets. .




I've had these on my wishlist for a while now and was finally able to get some. For those looking for some boardmember and vendor "Pickmup" (Frank) has the best price on these American made cushions.

I've got to replace my throttle cable also, found out that a 4x4 engine sits back a couple inches further than my 2wd so my cable is now too long. Nice work!
