Are your front tires centered? Crossmember swap.
Hello all,
I thought I would post this here, incase it might catch someones attention that has dealt with it before. I installed a 1 ton crossmember from a 1977 into my 1986 1/2 ton. When bolting the crossmember up, there was a little more space on the sides than my factory crossmember, but I just attributed that to frame flex, other than that, it went in pretty smooth, the frame tightened down to the crossmember. I did notice the frame on the 86 was taller than the 1 ton, the 1 ton front end had added support plates on the inside, that connected to the motor mount bracket bolt, and those were too short. Here is the problem now, my front tire on the driver side, is about an inch closer to the fender, than the passenger side. I didn't measure beforehand, because I just didn't expect this type of problem. My truck has never been hit, and the crossmember didn't appear damaged. Looking down the truck, and the body is all inline. I have Belltech dropped spindles on there now, but I dont think they are causing it. Does anyone know what might be going on here? Has anyone ran into such clearance issues when dropping their stock crossmember truck? I dunno if there are slight frame differences that I might be unaware of, aside from the taller frame, and I noticed the steering box was stamped in a different shape, but still the same mount location. I thought the crossmember would still be centered the same. Thanks, Dru. |
