Taking apart steering column....
Hey,
My goal for the holidays is to break into my steering column and replace the levers (turn signal, tilt, shifter) with new either just stock chrome or maybe billet levers. I was wondering if there is a write-up on how to take it apart to change it but I'm just not sure and I don't want to screw up any of the internal components in the process...any instructions would be very helpful Thanks

Re: Taking apart steering column....
do you have cruise control on your truck, or any other control on you turn signal lever? The tilt lever just screws in if you get a pair of pliers and a rag you can loosen it and put a new one in. On the shifter lever you will see a pin going threw it, just knock that pin out and the lever will come out, when you install the new one just line up the pin hole and you will be fine. The reason i ask if there are any controls on your turn signal lever is because if there is there is a wiring harness attached to it that you will need to remove if the isnt a control on you turn signal lever then just remove the steering wheel using a steering wheel puller, Then you will need a lock plate tool very easy to use and can rent one from an autoparts store. remove the snap ring once you compress the lock plate then take the horn contact, and the lock plate off and you will see the screw that holds the lever and your set put it back to gether and call it good. If you need pictures let me know ive rebuild my collumn a few times and its fairly easy to do once you understand it all good luck have fun and patience

Well even though I have a 77 the column is from an 84...(wiper controls on lever) and I want to just change it out with a regular lever and keep the wiper controls on the dash...since it has wiring is that going to be any problem? I figure you just remove the wiring and replace with regular lever....and yes any pics would be nice.... Thanks
