18's front 20's back?
Anyone running 18's on the front with 20's on the back? I'm looking to get new rims soon and wanted to see some Square bodys with this set up. Right now i have 17's with a 3/5 drop, but thinking about droping it another inch.

I'm not, some people are man. I personally think that the 18/20 combo looks "off" the Front fender opening is to high. do you have any pics of your truck? I have some what close to a 4/6 and want to roll 17''s

Re: 18's front 20's back?
StrokinRat; I ran 18s on my '87 until I found some 20s. Only problem with 20s is the tire height availability for 20s. I'd like to have some taller ones in the front if possible. I've already bent a rim once from a pothole.

Re: 18's front 20's back?
yea my dad has 20's under his 90 with a 2/4 drop. He went with a smaller tire on the front b/c he was scared it would rub when he hits a pot hole. I plan to go with 20's i just wanted to see a 18/20 set up just to maybe have another option. Oh and 87Lowrider i all ways loved your truck. I had even thought about going with the satin black and pinstripe look when i was building mine b/c i liked yours so much, But didn't want to copy anybody. Here a pic Joe.

Re: 18's front 20's back?
Thanks guys but you know how it is, you can not not change something every now and then. There our projects, there will always be something to change. Plus I can't get those alloy's to clean up. They always look like they have water spots on them.

Re: 18's front 20's back?
Here's a few pics (not the best of quality)... but these are the one's I test fitted prior to going with 20's all the way around.

Re: 18's front 20's back?
When I test fitted those wheels in that picture it was lowered 5/7... now it sets around 6/8. My personal opinion I would go 20's all around... I debated the whole staggered look like you did as well. After I seen pics and actually borrowed my buddys wheels for a mock up... I was determined to go with 20's at all corners.
Thanks, Anthony

Re: 18's front 20's back?
If ya know what i mean, with an 18/20 setup, the back wheels won't look bigger, but the fronts will look smaller. I wanted to go with an 18/20 setup on mine, even though lifted not lowered, but didn't cuz the fronts would look smaller rather than the rears looking bigger. plus then I wouldn't be able to follow a 4 tire rotation pattern.
To note: te front wheel opening is smaller than the rear in every way, but it still would look off. Last edited by 78 Chevyrado; 12-28-2010 at 09:57 PM. |

Re: 18's front 20's back?
I'm sure ill go with 20's all the way around. I'll put my dads on there one day and see how they fit that way i'll know if i need to go with a different size tire or backspacing ect..

Re: 18's front 20's back?
18's/20's (w/the right drop). I could drive it daily & did for several years!
18x8's/245/45's; 20x10's/295/40's....

Re: 18's front 20's back?
20's all the way around. Same drop, but I couldn't drive 5mph down my alley w/o rubbing the front inner fender-wells. 20x8.5's/255-40's; 20x10's 295/40's....

Re: 18's front 20's back?
20's do look better on the 73-87 but choose your backspacing wisely. 18's on the front seem to have a bigger sidewall profile mainly because most guys are installing tires for height thus giving you a wider tire causing a bulged looking sidewall compared to the rear which we are able to put the right diameter/width tire for the given rim width...

Re: 18's front 20's back?
yea i missed the bs on the 17s that are on it. I mean they look ok just wish the back tires were stuck out alittle bit more. Could get some spacers but if i'm going to get new rims then i'm not going to worry out it. I was going to try to look up other board members that are running 20's and see what they did.
