4L60E swap??

I know alot of people here have done the 700R4 swap. I'm wondering if anyone has toyed with a 4L60E swap.

I'm aware they make a stand alone controller for retro swapping these electronic controlled trannys.

I was wondering if someone could fill me in on the details involved.

I'm planning to purchase a new unit, already outfitted to bolt up to the 205 transfer case, along with a VSS for the speedo. I plan to just move the engine forward as necessary, rather the trans/transfer case. Seems like an easier solution to me. The controller and harness is a plug and play type of deal.

What else am I missing here?

Re: 4L60E swap??

Looking to do the Same. I am putting in a LS-1 with a 4l60e. I am interested in hearing the same. All I have heard from friends is to go to painless to get a harness, but nothing about if it will mount up or what will change.

Re: 4L60E swap??

I would think it would be pretty straight forward. There are a lot of folks out there that do harness modifications, you just tell them what you want and they'll make it for you. When I put the TPI in my 71, I got a custom harness from Jim's Performance, everything was plug and play. I think your biggest issue will be getting the drivelines the right length and where to put your motor mounts so that the dizzy isn't hitting the firewall.

Re: 4L60E swap??

For the computer and harness I've always used Howell Engine Management Systems.
They custom make the harness to the application being used, along with a custom tune already flashed in.
The last time was 4 years ago when I did an LT1/4L60E swap in a Jeep scrambler. Was simply plug and play, everything tagged where to go, just didn't get any easier. That was a dana 300 transfer case though, and Advance Adapters had the VSS adaptor and proper tailshaft for that application.

The issue I'm wondering now with Advance Adaptor, is there swap kit for the 205 transer case. Just an output shaft and a couple bolts and 0-rings.
There is no mention of a VSS, which is necessary on a 4L60E so the computer can control shifts properly.
I sent an email and haven't heard back, has me a bit puzzled.

That's good to hear. I've been collecting parts for a 6.0 LQ4 for a swap in mine along with this 4L60E. My biggest issue on the engine however is finding a suitable candidate. Most are up there on mileage (150,000 or more) and asking prices of $1,200 or more without any accessories,,,ugh.
So that's the biggest piece of the puzzle I'm missing at the moment.

Unfortunately I seem to be getting rushed now, as the original 350 turbo in the truck is occasionally slipping. I'd like to have everything here ready to go since it's my daily driver, so I've been taking my time till now. Guess I'll have to limp it around for a while
